Update: Unfortunately, this is actually an April Fools Day joke. However, the Nun character named Hail Mary is indeed real and interested players can pick her up through Blood Bonds.

Set in an alternate 1895, Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown sends players deep into the Louisiana bayou to hunt for horrific creatures. Teams of up to three Hunters scour the swamps for clues to track down these vicious monsters while also watching their backs for rivals hunting the same bounty.

Naturally, for a game about monster hunting, Hunt: Showdown puts a lot of focus on its unlockable Hunters, with Crytek regularly adding new faces through downloadable content. The developer just announced that some new characters are venturing into the swamp. However, “new” might be the wrong word, as Crytek fans will recognize them from games like Crysis and Ryse: Son of Rome.

New Legendary Hunters include Prophet from Crysis, Marius Titus from Ryse: Son of Rome, Laika from Robinson: The Journey, and the unnamed Climber from Climb. It isn’t clear how a futuristic cyborg, Roman legionary, baby Tyrannosaurus Rex, and modern mountain climber ended up in 1890s Louisiana. However, they bring a variety of new skills to the table. For example, Prophet’s Nanosuit grants him superhuman strength and speed alongside a cloaking ability. Marius Titus, meanwhile, excels in melee combat, while the Climber can scale walls and buildings for a tactical advantage. And while Crytek didn’t go into much detail about Laika’s abilities, there are plenty of ways a playable dinosaur might come in handy.

Hunt: Showdown’s developer showed off the new playable characters in a trailer on March 31st. It shows Prophet and Marius fighting alongside a rifle-toting nun, with cameos from Laika and the Climber. The so-far unnamed nun character is presumably another new Legendary Hunter, though Crytek’s press release didn’t mention her. However, the trailer’s YouTube description includes the sentence, “Fight the rising darkness with a new hero, one that can light the path ahead for those that will surely follow.” Hunt: Showdown fans have been talking about the possibility of a nun character for some time, and her presence in the trailer appears to be a confirmation.

Hopefully, those fans are as pleased as everyone else seems to be. If the trailer’s YouTube comments are any indication, Hunt: Showdown fans seem to be responding positively to the announced crossover. As one commenter pointed out, it’s also good that Crytek released the trailer today, March 31st, instead of tomorrow. Otherwise, people might have written it off as an April Fools joke.

The announcement notes that Prophet, Marius Titus, Laika, and the Climber are only available for a limited time. However, neither the trailer nor press release gave a specific window. Thus, any Hunt: Showdown players who don’t mind a bit of anachronism might need to act fast.

Hunt: Showdown is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
