Recently, the itch.io software bundle raised more than $6 million, and now Humble Bundle has also raised an incredible amount.
According to a tweet posted a few days ago, the Humble Bundle "Stand with Ukraine" game, book, and software deal has managed to raise more than $20 million dollars, all of which is going towards humanitarian efforts. Featuring more than 120 items worth a total of around $2,500, the charity bundle was purchased by over 470,000 people. The money will be going to Razom for Ukraine, International Rescue Committee, International Medical Corps, and Direct Relief.
While the deal has ended now, there were some incredible games on offer for those who were lucky enough to catch it. Humble Bundle was offering Back 4 Blood and Metro Exodus, as well as other pretty huge titles, for $40. Within days of it going live, the cause had managed to raise around $7.6 million, so it was clear that it was going to be a successful run. Having collectively made more than $20 million is an astonishing figure, and many may feel some comfort in knowing that so much is being done to help Ukraine.
On top of that, many huge tech firms such as Take-Two, Epic, Ubisoft, Nvidia, and Sony have suspended sales with Russia. Humble Bundle itself also announced it would be severing business ties with the nation, just before it announced its charity bundle for Ukraine. It is currently a time of turmoil and uncertainty, and many countries have been standing with the victims in solidarity, not just the gaming and technology industries.
With the Russian invasion of Ukraine still going on after several weeks, many hearts go out to the communities who are having their lives torn apart by the conflict. The likes of Humble Bundle and itch.io providing ways for gamers to help shows that there are people and companies who are willing to do what they can for humanitarian efforts.
