Little is known about the upcoming action RPG Harry Potter: Hogwarts Legacy. The game was initially slated for a release in 2021, however, it was announced earlier in the year that this release date had been pushed back to 2022. The trailer showed off an 1800s Hogwarts that had fans excited to finally explore the school’s halls in 4K. While the delay has, at least for the time being, muted that excitement somewhat, the eventual release of Hogwarts Legacy should grab the attention of fans.
Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world game, and it will allow players to choose which house they would like to join. Each of these features will be key to the RPG aspects of Hogwarts Legacy, with each individual house in the world of Harry Potter carrying its own specific traits. Harry Potter fans will be hoping that these traits are reflected in the gameplay, as they could be pivotal to capturing the Harry Potter experience. Hufflepuff is a house often mocked by fans. However, they may be a popular house choice in Hogwarts Legacy as a number of their house-specific traits could come in handy.
Hard-Working Hufflepuff in Hogwarts Legacy
Hufflepuff students, more so than most, have a hard-working spirit and a dedication to self-improvement. In the films, this is perhaps best shown through Cedric Diggory in The Goblet of Fire. Cedric, despite taking part in a competition ultimately rigged for Harry Potter to win, manages to win the Tri-Wizard Cup alongside Harry. Even with the odds firmly stacked against him, Cedric’s hard work sees him come out victorious in what would prove to be his downfall. This is not entirely unusual for Hufflepuff students, as despite their modesty, they prove to be the most successful of all of the Hogwarts houses.
This is a trait that could be of great use to Hogwarts Legacy players if they are allowed to correctly utilize it. Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG, a genre known for the player’s ability to upgrade their character. Hufflepuff students could be among the most successful Hogwarts Legacy players if their hard-working trait is taken into account in gameplay.
An example of how this could be implemented in Hogwarts Legacy can be seen through the Guardian Stones of Skyrim. These stones allow Skyrim players to learn skills in their chosen field 20% faster than they ordinarily would. This could be a balanced way to reflect the Hufflepuff’s commitment to hard work. While the Hufflepuff still needs to grind to improve, their hard-working trait allows them to be more successful in training.
Loyal Hufflepuff in Hogwarts Legacy
To add to their hard-working nature, Hufflepuff students are also extremely loyal. As such, Hufflepuff students tend to have plenty of friends and have relationships that are built upon solid foundations. The loyalty of a Hufflepuff can be clearly seen through Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts series of movies. Newt proves to have undying loyalty to the creatures that are under his care, regularly putting himself in danger to protect them from a wizarding world that could kill them if given the chance. Newt also proves to be capable of making his fair share of human friends, who he remains loyal to throughout the Fantastic Beasts movies.
Traits such as this can become useful in RPG games when the assistance of NPCs is required. Someone is far more likely to volunteer their help if the person in need of it has proven to be loyal to them in the past, or if the person in need is a friend. Throughout Hogwarts Legacy, it is likely that the player will be sent on a number of quests.
While Hufflepuff’s hard-working spirit will be an advantage here, their loyalty trait could be used to increase their favor with potential followers. Maybe a charisma boost at the start of the game could facilitate this, allowing for more successful interactions with Hogwarts Legacy's NPC characters, potentially resulting in the Hufflepuff’s loyalty being repaid.
