Fortnite players can typically unlock a Battle Pass by either saving the V-bucks they've earned throughout the Battle Royale or Save the World Mode, or by forking over $10 in real-world cash. But for the upcoming season 8 Battle Pass, developer Epic Games has made a way for players to unlock it absolutely free, allowing the player to save onto their V-bucks and/or cash.

To do so, players simply need to log in between now and February 27 to complete 13 overtime challenges, all of which are absolutely free and not locked to the season 7 Battle Pass. These Fortnite challenges have been added as a way to smooth out the transition between season 7 and season 8, which was delayed following a short holiday break in December. And beyond the free Battle Pass, players can also unlock new styles for season 7 skins and wraps by completing some of these challenges.

It's worth noting that three of these Fortnite challenges are already live, with the remainder likely to slowly roll out over the next couple of weeks. Thus far, they do not seem to be incredibly complex, as players are just asked, for now, to collect 15 coins on Featured Creative Islands, to search 7 ammo boxes or chests in the motel or RV park, and to place Top 15 in duos with a friend 3 times.

With all the build-up to season 8, it seems likely many Fortnite players will want to seize this one-of-a-kind opportunity. Fortnite hasn't previously awarded the Battle Pass for free before, but given the steady popularity and profitability of the game, this isn't that surprising. After all, for those who have been paying attention to the Prisoner and the Ice King, season 8 seems like it's going to be a doozy that many may want to check out.

Recent leaks suggest that a war between this Prisoner - the Fire King - and the Ice King will break out, with the season 7 end/season 8 start blanketing the battle island in various environmental disasters such as earthquakes and tornados. These leaks also suggest that the Fire King is also getting his own section of the battle island, similar to the Ice King's winter biome, where an evergreen Wailing Woods once sat. In other words, the momentum isn't slowing down for Fortnite, but now, players can cash in on new skins and more for free.

Fortnite is out now in early access for Android, iOS, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
