Another alternative for tipping in Dota 2 involves holding the Alt key. When the Alt key is pressed, the player is presented with additional information about an ongoing game, such as the range of towers, neutral camps spawn boxes, etc. Holding the Alt key will also cause TIP buttons to appear below each player portrait. Tipping is a way for players to praise others for a job well done. Tipping can be used for the following scenarios:

  • When an ally hero takes out one or more enemy heroes.
  • When an ally sacrifices themselves to save their carry.
  • When an ally gets a rampage.

On the other hand, tipping can also be used as a form of psychological warfare to tilt the enemy team, also referred to as Offensive Tipping. Offensive Tipping can be used in the following scenarios:

  • When the enemy team is unable to kill a hero.
  • When an enemy team buys back and dies again.
  • When the enemy is unable to get last hits on creeps.

Offensive tipping is considered toxic, but it can help players get the upper hand over their opponents.

Apart from praising or tilting players, tipping also rewards players with shards.
