Horses are one of Link's most valuable allies in his journey across Hyrule, and while there are several to be found in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there's one horse that stands above all others in Zelda lore. Just like Breath of the Wild before it, Tears of the Kingdom gives players the opportunity to bring Link's beloved Epona into the game.

How to Get Epona in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

There are two methods players can use to summon Epona to their game, the first of which is done through the use of the amiibo functionality. Using either the Super Smash Bros. Link amiibo or the Twilight Princess Link amiibo, players have an incredibly high likelihood of having Epona spawn in front of them.

It should be said that only the standard Link amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. set will work; Young Link and Toon Link will summon different items and chests but will not summon Epona.

Players are not limited to summoning Epona only once in the game and can use these amiibo once each day with the possibility of having two at once.

Unfortunately, for those that do not have access to those amiibo, the second method is not much different. Players can also unlock Epona in Tears of the Kingdom when they visit a stable for the first time and speak to the owner.

If they have previous save data from a playthrough of Breath of the Wild on their Switch, players can import all the horses they had from that game, including Epona. The aforementioned downside is that the only way to have gotten Epona in Breath of the Wild was also through the use of amiibo.

How to Use Epona

When summoned to Hyrule through an amiibo, Epona arrives already tamed for players to ride along with a gentle temperament and maximum bond with the player. Epona also has the best stats a horse can have in the game, with four stars in strength, speed, and stamina.

The drawback is that players cannot alter Epona's gear or mane styling. Additionally, as shown in the image above, she does not have a pull stat, so it is not at all possible to put the Towing Harness on Epona.

However, with such fantastic abilities right out of the gate, Epona remains one of the best horses players can get in the game.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available for the Nintendo Switch.
