Syrax is one of them, who fans got to see in the very first episode of the show. As certain fans of the series would know already, Syrax is going to play a key role in House of the Dragon moving forward and there are things about this remarkable beast that every fan should know.

7 A She-Dragon

Syrax-and-the-Queen-1

The majority of the dragons seen in Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon so far have all been male. Syrax is one of the very few known she-dragons in the story. This has been confirmed by the histories of Westeros long ago, and in House of the Dragon's very first episode, Rhaenyra confirms that Syrax is, in fact, a she-dragon.

This is fitting for a character such as Rhaenyra who aims to be Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and claim the Iron Throne for herself. With Syrax by her side, Rhaenyra is able to fight even the toughest of battles with great confidence.

6 Her Rider

Syrax and Rhaenyra

Most of the dragons tend to have more than one rider. It is believed that a dragon only takes one rider at a time, however, once it has not been ridden by the previous rider, a dragon can take a new one.

In the case of Syrax, however, Rhaenyra Targaryen was the only rider that she chose and accepted. This is heavily hinted at in the history records which suggest that Rhaenyra claimed Syrax in 104 AC and called her to be a very young dragon. From there onwards, the two grow extremely close to each other and their bond lasts for decades. As fans know already, Syrax doesn't take any other rider after Rhaenyra Targaryen.

5 Her Name

Syrax Fire and Blood

Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen claimed Syrax to be her mount in 104 AC. At the time, Rhaenyra was just 7 years old and upon seeing the dragon, she immediately described it to be very young. Immediately afterwards, Rhaenyra named the beast Syrax, which once again goes to show that she had no other riders before.

Rhaenyra chose to name her dragon after one of the Valyrian Goddesses, which is an intriguing choice, to say the least. The two share an incredibly close relationship with each other and their bond is known to be extremely beautiful.

4 Her Color

Syrax is known to be covered in yellow scales all over her body. This also relates to her nature and goes to show her rather gentle mannerisms when compared to other dragons. For instance, Balerion the Black Dread was known to have been covered in black scales which symbolized his ferocious and deadly nature.

At the same time, Daenerys Targaryen's fiercest dragon, Drogon, was also covered in flaming black scales which Martin has related to his ferocity on several occasions.

3 Her Size

Syrax In Air

Syrax is a huge dragon and, in the very first episode of House of the Dragon, was said to have been growing incredibly fast. According to Rhaenyra, Syrax would soon be as big as Caraxes, the dragon mounted by Daemon Targaryen, her uncle.

However, Syrax never truly grows to the same size as that of Caraxes. At the same time, she also isn't nearly as ferocious when it comes to fighting and also lacks a ton of experience when compared to Caraxes.

2 Her Eggs

Game of Thrones Dragon Eggs

Syrax is known to have laid several eggs in clutches and it is believed that her last clutch was laid shortly before the Dance of the Dragons began. Rhaenyra's stepdaughter, Rhaena, was given one of Syrax's eggs and out of it hatched the dragon that went on to be named Morning.

Furthermore, it is also implied that all the dragons that Rhaenyra's sons ride hatched from Syrax's eggs, however, this is just conjecture and has not been explicitly confirmed just yet.

1 Her Death

Syrax with Rhaenyra

Cyrax was brutally slain when the Dragonpit was stormed by the people of King's landing. Although Syrax was not in the pit, she flew there in an attempt to fight off the mob. Joffrey attempted to use her to get to the dragon pit and burn the attackers, however, since Syrax only took Rhaenyra for her rider, she ended up shaking off Joffrey midair, and he crashed down to his death.

Syrax then landed in the pit and attempted to fight the mob with her claws and teeth instead of her flames for some reason. Unfortunately, she ended up dying there. Nonetheless, Syrax remains to be one of the most beautiful, powerful, and loyal dragons in the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.
