Born as a Targaryen prince, Lucerys was destined to ride dragons, just as his blood calls for it. Lucerys rode the dragon Arrax. Arrax is a fairly young dragon and was placed in the cradle of a baby Lucerys Velaryon upon his birth. The dragon is pearlescent white, young, and quite worrisome.

Lucerys isn’t the best at controlling Arrax, considering that they are both youths. The dragon isn’t exactly a pet, has a fierce temperament, and will do what it wants if it feels the need to do so. Nevertheless, the fact that Lucerys is such a young dragon rider makes him a decent one.

7 Baela Targaryen

As the daughter of Daemon Targaryen and Laena Velaryon, Baela is a dragon rider with the talent and pride of both mother and father. She comes from two strong houses and is the rider of Moondancer. As of season one of House of the Dragon, Moondancer has not been seen in all her glory just yet.

However, in the books, Moondancer is a young and slender dragon, with pale green scales. Moondancer is nimble and fast thanks to her size, and with a talented rider like Baela, those that seek war with the girl and her dragon are in for trouble.

6 Aegon Targaryen II

Aegon Targaryen may be the king at the moment, but he must put aside the women and the alcohol, and train hard with his dragon if he is to keep his claim to the Iron Throne against his half-sister, Rhaenyra Targaryen. Aegon rides the dragon Sunfyre, a dragon with beautiful gold scales.

Many regards Aegon’s dragon, Sunfyre, as the most beautiful dragon in recorded history. Sunfyre is not the oldest dragon, nor is he the youngest. Aegon and Sunfyre are bound to be a fierce duo in the violence that is yet to erupt in House of the Dragon.

5 Jacaerys Velaryon

Jacaerys velaryon

The eldest son of Rhaenyra Targaryen has quite the legacy to uphold. Constant scorn from his uncles and the debate on the legitimacy of his birth as a Velaryon has made Jacaerys stronger than ever, even more so with a dragon at his side. Jacaerys rides Vermax, another young dragon whom Jacaerys has trained.

It was in his youth that Vermax learned how to heel and breathe fire. Vermax is bigger now, and has a lot of great speed that will assist in the coming war. Jacaerys will surely have a lot of anger from the murder of his brother, and will use his dragon to wreak it.

4 Rhaenyra Targaryen

House of the Dragon Rhaenyra at Visenyas Funeral

Rhaenyra Targaryen saw herself cheated out of her rightful spot on the Iron Throne. It was the council of men that elected that a woman could never rule over the seven kingdoms, and as such, she is taking this betrayal and turning it into war. Rhaenyra will be taking her dragon Syrax into the fray.

Syrax is protective of Rhaenyra, and the promised Queen has been riding on Syrax since she was a child. The dragon is named after the Valyrian goddess Syrax, and is worthy of such a title, considering her great power, speed, and a surge of flame from her mouth.

3 Daemon Targaryen

Daemon Targaryen from House of the Dragon.

As the brother to King Viserys, and the promised Queen consort, Daemon Targaryen is a devilish rogue and a peerless warrior. Daemon has an aptitude for combat and seems to thrive for it. With Daemon riding a dragon, his enemies are far from safe.

Daemon has the mount Caraxes, the Blood Wyrm. His red scales make Caraxes fiercely intimidating, and the dragon has been a veteran of many battles alongside Daemon. Considering that Daemon is a great warrior, no matter the dragon, he could most likely make them into a true threat.

2 Rhaenys Targaryen

Rhaenys escapes on Meleys in House of the Dragon.

The Queen Who Never Was turned her scorn surrounding the Iron Throne into her power. She is wed to House Velaryon, showing great wealth and power. Alongside her identity, loyalty, and dragon, she is a great dragon rider, with a powerful beast to lay her claim whenever she sees it necessary.

The mount of Rhaenys Targaryen is Meleys, known as the Red Queen for her violent red scales. Out of the oldest dragons of herself, Caraxes and Vhagar, she is the fastest. Audiences have already seen the great size and power of Meleys as she interrupted Aegon’s coronation, and killed people that were in her great space.

1 Aemond Targaryen

Aemond Targaryen on dragonback.

Aemond may have lost an eye when he was a child, but it was a worthwhile exchange since he received a dragon in its stead. Aemond Targaryen was never given a dragon until he claimed one himself. Aemond is fearless and dared to approach the mourning and old Vhagar after the death of her rider, Laena Velaryon.

Vhagar is known as the Queen of All Dragons, as she is the oldest living dragon. Due to her age, she is a titan of a dragon, and is ginormous. As the last remaining dragon of Aegon’s conquest, Vhagar is the ultimate challenge, and Aemond makes it so that she is even more dangerous and controlled.
