House of the Dead is one of the most beloved light-gun rail shooters that has a presence in just about every arcade in the world ever since its original release in 1996. Pitting one to two players against countless zombies in rail-shooting action, a new House of the Dead remake will allow fans to bring the experience home once again.

House of the Dead has had various console releases both for the original title as well as its multiple sequels. The series has been credited alongside Resident Evil for popularizing zombie video games which have become a massive genre in their own right ever since.

Now, a new remake of the game that defined light shooters titled House of the Dead: Remake is making its way to Nintendo Switch. Developer MegaPixel Studio has said that the game will boast updated graphics as well as changes to gameplay that bring the shooter more in line with modern standards. However, for any worried fans of the series, it has also confirmed that the game will keep the plot faithful to the original game, including the series' legacy of having multiple endings to discover and unlock, and the trailer shows that the gameplay also looks faithful despite receiving some updates to make it feel more modern. The remake will also feature an entirely new cast of characters for players to pick from.

Fans of the series may remember that the remake was announced back in 2019 from publisher Forever Entertainment alongside a remake of The House of the Dead 2. However, the released trailer only delivers an update on The House of the Dead: Remake and fans will still have to wait for news on the remake of the sequel. The trailer also only confirms that the title is coming to Nintendo Switch, so it remains to be seen whether or not the game will eventually make it to other platforms like PC and home consoles.

The trailer comes as a bit of a surprise as it was released quickly after Nintendo's Indie World stream event early today, but the news is definitely welcomed by fans of the series that have been waiting for news since the remake's announcement. Hopefully, the title will be available on other platforms as well as the Switch so that more fans get to re-experience the classic shooter.

The House of the Dead: Remake is set to be available later this year on Nintendo Switch.
