The beginning of the PS4 and Xbox One generation was flooded with remastered ports for some of the most popular games on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Nowadays, times have changed and it's remakes of classic games that are all the rage with Crash Team Racing, Resident Evil 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening all receiving major facelifts in 2019 alone.
Following the E3 announcement that Forever Entertainment was working on modern remakes for the first two Panzer Dragoon games, it's now been confirmed that the publisher has also signed on to remake another popular Sega series, in the form of The House of the Dead.
The news was announced via Forever Entertainment's Twitter account, confirming that the publisher has started development on remakes for both The House of the Dead and The House of the Dead 2. SEGA will still retain ownership of the IP for House of the Dead with Forever Entertainment publishing the remakes from developer MegaPixel Studio. Unfortunately, as the agreement is still in the process of being signed, no information was revealed regarding which platforms the remakes would be coming to or a release window.
Hi Guys! We confirm the signing of the agreement regarding remakes of the games "The House of the Dead" and "The House of the Dead 2". No platforms or release dates have been confirmed, and unfortunately we can’t say anything more for now. Please keep fingers crossed for us and..— Forever Entertainment (@ForeverEntert) October 3, 2019
The House of the Dead is an on-rails arcade shooter that spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs and played a significant role in popularising zombies video games during the mid-90s. Polish website had Graczpospolita initially reported on the remakes in the final week of September, claiming that the remakes "will have new graphics adapted to modern standards and slightly modified gameplay," while remaining faithful to the original games.
While Forever Entertainment isn't able to give any further information regarding the remakes, it's safe to assume that both games will be available on Nintendo Switch given that the Panzer Dragoon remakes are exclusive to the platform. Whether or not they make it to all modern platforms including PC, PS4, Xbox One remains to be seen.
The House of the Dead 1 and 2 are currently being remade for unspecified platforms.
