Out of all the things that go bump in the night, what’s the one thing that’s taken hold of pop culture the strongest in the current generation? Zombies. Those shuffling, groaning, decaying, bloody corpses that cry out for human flesh and/or brains just can’t seem to stay away from anything nowadays. Movies, video games, comic books, TV shows, cartoons…it seems as though the walking dead are constantly popping up as the threat du jour for virtually any medium.
But before zombies were cool, the House of the Dead series was making its mark by presenting you with a simple scenario: zombies are in front of you, kill them with your gun. Though the series has lasted for many years, with the arcades no longer as prominent in gamer culture as they used to be, the franchise has only barely trudged on. Yet there is still some life in it, as House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut is on its way for the PS3.
We first caught wind of the expected sequel turned extension last year, and found out about its appearance on the PS3 and its focus on PlayStation Move controls a few weeks ago. Now, a new trailer has been released to show off another addition to the bloody mayhem that is House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut.
See for yourself what’s in store for you as you enter the Carnival.
The level looks to be a real fun challenge for anyone brave enough to take it on. You have the swinging pirate ship, which will probably make hitting your targets incredibly difficult. You have a stand full of knives that you’ll have to deflect, with your Move controller. You have the House of Death, which looks like an homage to the older House of the Dead games. And you have killer zombie clowns. As if clowns weren’t scary enough already.
Granted, this may not exactly qualify as a “scary” game, and instead would be more of an “action-horror” game. Considering you’re running through strange environments, shooting everything in your path without fear – sometimes with a crossbow instead of a gun – it might not be all that scary. That doesn’t mean it can’t be a ton of fun, though.
Are you looking forward to the latest House of the Dead title? Is this enough to convince you to get PlayStation Move?
House of the Dead: Overkill – Extended Cut is coming out on October 25 for the PS3.
