Horizon Zero Dawn, a game released exclusively for the PlayStation 4, could see a potential release for PC and other systems. Earlier this morning, when asked about the rumors surrounding the potential port of Horizon Zero Dawn, Jason Schreier, well-known Kotaku journalist and reputable source of gaming information, could neither confirm nor deny the possibility of a cross-platform release for Horizon Zero Dawn.
Horizon Zero Dawn was released on the PlayStation 4 as a console exclusive back in early 2017 and was met with widespread acclaim by both fans and critics. Since its initial release, the game has sold well over ten million copies and has won numerous awards from a multitude of platforms. Due to its success and popularity, Horizon Zero Dawn has also had several crossovers with other popular games, such as the recent Death Stranding.
This morning, a random Twitter user reached out to renowned Kotaku journalist Jason Schreier and asked him whether there was any truth to the rumors that Horizon Zero Dawn will see any cross-platform releases. In response, Schreier mentioned that he could not say with absolute certainty that the rumors are false, but is unsure of whether they are true either. When it comes to leaks, nothing is ever 100% assured, what with all of the Super Smash Bros. leaks recently proven false.
In the past, Schreier has been known to refute rumors of a similar caliber, but the vague nature of his response has led to a lot of speculation. It's unclear whether or not Schreier is hesitant to give a solid answer because the possibility is fairly high or if he has conflicting information from various sources.
In all fairness, these rumors about a PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn have existed for quite awhile now, but again, nobody has been able to confirm anything. Something else to note is the fact that this information was leaked, which in the world of gaming is somewhat commonplace, but has recently gained a certain unreliability. There have been many leaks that have come out within this last year alone and a lot of them were proven to be fake. Not to mention, the Horizon Zero Dawn leak suggested that the PC port would be announced at the Game Awards, but no such announcement was made.
Then again, with the release of the PlayStation 5 drawing closer and closer, there have also been rumors regarding what kinds of console exclusives will be included with the new system, one of which being the release of Horizon Zero Dawn 2. As is the case with some titles, once enough time has passed, they can later be released on other systems, so it is possible that if Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is announced, then a cross platform announcement might be made in tandem. Only time will tell.
