After the massive success of Horizon: Zero Dawn over the last couple weeks, the game’s developer has now officially revealed it is working on an expansion to the game’s story. The revelation comes by way of Guerrilla Games managing director, Hermen Hulst, who mentioned the Horizon: Zero Dawn expansion in a statement about the game’s strong sales.

Granted, the sales numbers for Horizon: Zero Dawn are likely exciting for Sony and Guerrilla, but the confirmation of additional content is far more compelling, especially since the game launched without any revealed DLC, expansion, or Season Pass plans. In the statement, Hulst said:

“This is only the beginning of Aloy's story and our exploration of the world of Horizon Zero Dawn, with the team already hard at work on an expansion to the story."

Hulst didn’t provide any details about what the expansion will include or when players can expect it to release, but just the confirmation is good news for gamers. It’s also good to hear that the focus of the expansion will be to continue Aloy’s story. Those that have finished the main campaign in Horizon know that Aloy's story is far from finished, but whether or not Guerrilla will build on the teases peppered at the tail end of the game or tell a completely different story is unclear.

Guerrilla already expressed interest in a Horizon sequel prior to the first game's release, but further comments suggested Aloy might not be a part of those plans. Perhaps this DLC expansion will help give her character one last hurrah.

If nothing else, gamers can expect the expansion to be devoid of guns considering recent statements from the game’s director about intentionally leaving out guns from the game. But it’s possible the developer will expand the arsenal Aloy currently has at her disposal. Additionally, there likely won’t be any movement on the multiplayer front, despite the many requests from the community to add multiplayer to Horizon: Zero Dawn.

While players wait for additional details about Horizon: Zero Dawn’s expansions, they can look forward to additional bug fixes and updates to better balance the already impressive open-world title.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is currently available on PlayStation 4.
