After a nearly 4 year wait, fans are only a few months away from being able to play Horizon Forbidden West. As the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn from 2017, the game continues the story of Aloy as she ventures into a new region called the Forbidden West. As the game nears completion, fans have received several new looks at its gameplay.

Recently, the anticipated sequel received a new trailer during The Game Awards on December 9. In this new look at the game, players caught glimpses of a variety of beautiful yet deadly machines, along with seeing new outfits available for Aloy. These original creatures were stunning, such as an enormous robot snake coiled around a giant rock. However, Guerrilla Games apparently isn’t finished giving out new info about these machines.

In a tweet from December 10, Guerrilla unveiled the name of another one of the terrifying machines found in the beautiful world of Horizon Forbidden West. Known as the Tideripper, this new robot seemed to have an affinity for water. According to the note from the developer, it was an acquisition machine constructed to filter sediment to find valuable materials. However, the developer cautioned that the creature was equally efficient as a predator, revealing that it was dangerous on land and in water.

In addition to this new detailed description, the developer of Horizon Forbidden West included a short video showing the machine in action. Based on the footage, the monster appeared to have powerful jaws filled with razor-sharp teeth. Furthermore, it had a streamlined body perfect for cutting through the water to reach targets quickly. This was illustrated in the video as it darted at Aloy, narrowly missing its attack.

This isn’t the only news regarding the Horizon franchise. Recently, Guerrilla Games announced that a new update for the PC version of Horizon Zero Dawn had been released. While the developer had patched the PC port on multiple occasions, this latest update brought several significant improvements. Players could now utilize the upscaling technologies of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) on Nvidia GPUs and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) for AMD GPUs. With one of these features enabled on compatible hardware, players can now play the original game at higher resolutions without losing as much fps.

As the release date for Horizon Forbidden West approaches, it will be interesting to see if the developers at Guerrilla Games give players anymore sneak peeks at the machines coming in the sequel. Regardless, fans won’t have to wait much longer until they can encounter these dangerous robots for themselves, as the game launches in just a few months.

Horizon Forbidden West releases on February 18, 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
