The developers at Guerrilla Games have been busy of late. Between work on Horizon: Forbidden West and a recent update bringing 60 FPS to the PS5 version of Horizon: Zero Dawn, the game studio has been working on multiple projects involving the robot-dino fighting hero Aloy. However, that doesn’t seem to be stopping the developers from taking on another game. This time with a possible focus on multiplayer.

This news regarding a multiplayer game comes from a group of new job listings from Guerrilla Games. Among the listings, the company is looking for a senior social systems designer. The main duties described for this position have a direct connection to the multiplayer component of the potential game. According to the game studio, the ideal candidate needs to have “a passion for player communities and social features” as well as a desire to find new methods to bring players together in-game. Furthermore, the listing talked about the possibility of creating “Guild-like groups to explore together.”

In addition to the position mentioned above, Guerrilla Games is looking for a senior game writer. While it is unclear if this job is connected to the same project, the job description notes that applicants should have “extensive knowledge of stories and narrative design in open-world RPG games, online games, and MMORPGs.” This suggests that the potential game could take place in a large world similar to the Horizon games, and the project could be an MMORPG.

The idea of a multiplayer game being developed by Guerrilla Games seems even more plausible considering that this has been a potential feature tossed around by the company for a long time. According to VGC, the developers had originally planned on adding a multiplayer component to 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn. However, as the game neared completion, the idea was scrapped in order to focus on other aspects of the game’s development. In addition, Guerrilla Games has worked on multiplayer projects before developing the Horizon games. Starting in the 2000s, the company worked on the Killzone games, a series of PlayStation games with a major focus on multiplayer.

While fans might have to wait a while to find out more details about this potential multiplayer adventure, the release date of Guerrilla Games’ main project, Horizon: Forbidden West, is only a few months away. Set to launch on February 18, 2022, fans recently received a better look at improvements to the PS5 character model for Aloy. The developers noted advancements to character expression along with improved realism on the PS5 hardware.

It’s worth noting that many of the details regarding this potential multiplayer project from Guerrilla Games are still unknown and subject to change. Regardless, it will be interesting to see what direction the company decides to go after the release of Horizon: Forbidden West next year.
