Earlier this year, fans finally got their first taste of Horizon: Forbidden West's world and gameplay thanks to an in depth demo. Developer Guerrilla Games showcased a number of new mechanics such as the shieldwing glider and Valor Surge charge attack. In addition, Aloy will have new enemies to fight, both human and machine, like the hulking Tremortusk. However, one thing that wasn't revealed at the time was the game's actual release date, leaving many to wonder if it would be Sony's big holiday title for 2021.

As rumors swirled about a possible delay, a Gamescom 2021 announcement from Guerrilla Games confirmed what many expected. Horizon: Forbidden West wouldn't make it's 2021 launch, instead arriving in early 2022. While the delay no doubt disappointed fans and left a major hole in the 2021 PlayStation holiday lineup, the extra time should make for a better game overall as well as allow Sony and Guerrilla time to create a number of different versions of the game.

While many games would stop there, Guerrilla and Sony have created one last version of the game for the ultimate fans. The Regalla Edition retails for $259.99 and is again available in limited quantities. Again including a PS4 and PS5 version of the game, the Regalla Edition offers a twist on the previous Collector's Edition:

While the wait may be tough for fans, Guerrilla tried to soften the blow a bit by announcing a PS5 update for Horizon: Zero Dawn. While not a true PS5 port, the game will be getting a 60FPS boost, fixing the locked 30 FPS on the PS4.

Horizon Forbidden West releases for PS4 and PS5 on February 18, 2022.
