The upcoming release of Horizon Forbidden West has excited more than a few fans. It’s been some time since Zero Dawn’s release, and the sequel’s arrival as a launch title for the PlayStation 5 has meant that anticipation is sky high.

Of course, this has also seen an upsurge in the creation of memes. This is generally a way for fans to celebrate the announcement of the new game, as promotional images are easily used to poke fun at certain things. As Forbidden West might take some time in being released, it’s worth checking out the memes fans have come up with to make their excitement known.

10 The Real Question

Aloy is one of the most popular characters for fans who love to do cosplays. This has motivated the developers to release multiple shots of Aloy to promote her return. One funny observation that’s been made involves asking the question as to who Aloy’s photographer is supposed to be.

After all, in-universe, Aloy’s a loner without friends, so there shouldn’t be anyone bothering to take her pictures, much less from the back as she poses with the scenery. Looks like the person behind this meme is asking all the real questions.

9 Aloy's Wardrobe Choice

Among the pictures released for Forbidden West is one where Aloy seems to be exploring a beach. This can either be a hidden location or part of the main mission, but this meme creator's wondering about Aloy’s wardrobe choice.

It seems to be far from chilly where Aloy is at, so maybe ditching the fur doesn’t sound like a bad idea. And yet, Aloy’s sticking with her insulated clothing as if it’s not an option. Maybe Forbidden West will also reveal why she loves this particular wardrobe to such a degree.

8 It's Forbidden For A Reason, Aloy

If Forbidden West brings back the kinds of machines fans saw in the original, then Aloy’s in for a rough time. That doesn’t seem to be a problem, though, as this promotional image shows her heading toward danger.

What’s funny is that the “forbidden west” aspect is strikingly clear here. Seeing as there’s a killer robot, maybe Aloy should take the forbidden part of the whole thing more seriously. Instead, she’s pretty content heading straight for the red-eyed monster.

7 It Is On

Trust the fanbase to turn any picture into a meme about their hype. This photo of Aloy looking ahead with stalwart determination has proven popular among fans. To this end, the creator of this meme is using it to illustrate their own determination.

According to them, they’ll be waiting like this in front of stores for the very moment they start selling Horizon Forbidden West. It’ll be even better if a bunch of fans line up similarly all wearing Aloy gear in what is sure to be a sight to behold.

6 That's Some Deep Interpretation

This meme was right before Horizon Forbidden West’s official announcement. At the time, fans were speculating if a sequel was going to be on the cards or not. Clearly, reading between the lines has gone in overboard territory here.

The interpretation here was that simply because two PlayStation 5 consoles are shown here, that the next Horizon game was coming. The justification being that a “new dawn” arriving for Sony means that this is a Zero Dawn sequel announcement. At least you have to give it up to PS fans and their creative memes.

5 Can't Be Unseen

If you were wondering what the backdrop of Forbidden West resembles, then this meme gives you the answer. The gorgeous visuals can’t be denied, yet it does heavily remind one of the Avatar films as well.

The vast frontier, coupled with futuristic technology, is very reminiscent of the world in the blockbuster film. In fact, simply checking out Forbidden West’s map without being told that it’s from the game is bound to confuse viewers concerning whether it really is or isn't Avatar 2.

4 Aloy Needs Gloves

Some fans like to argue that the series deserves to be considered as part of the platformer genre. Horizon Forbidden West will certainly bring more discussion about this aspect, although there’s definitely going to be more jokes about the lack of logic behind it.

As seen here, Aloy can somehow use her bare hands to zipline down, something that should realistically cause her palms to suffer terrible burns due to friction. Still, this meme does hype fans up for the sequel, as they can’t wait to complete more unrealistic platforming feats like this.

3 That Doesn't Sound Too Bad

Certain fans have overlooked the DLC for Horizon Zero Dawn since it requires them to pay. Their reluctance is understandable considering they did purchase the first game. It looks like some of these fans are gearing up for something similar with Forbidden West.

To this end, this meme takes a shot at potential DLCs to come. Here, they claim that one DLC will simply be about braiding Aloy’s here. Admittedly, her hair does seem to be in good detail this time round so who knows if this might actually be true.

2 'Nuff Said, Sony

Aloy is something like a Lara Croft figure, in that whatever she’s up to is instantly cool. Horizon Forbidden West is set to expand on her skill set. This will bring in underwater missions, an aspect that fans have already been sold on without needing more clarity.

It’s best illustrated here, where the meme claims that Sony hasn’t even finished its promotion before the fan’s already forking over their cash. In all honesty, that picture of Aloy really does accomplish all the hype Forbidden West needs.

1 Wordplay

Big fans of the series didn’t miss what’s shown in this promotional image. While Zero Dawn wasn’t actually about an actual dawn, the joke here is that Aloy witnessing the sun come up means that Forbidden West does have a dawn of its own.

Due to this, the creator of this meme thinks that calling the game “Little Dawn” is more appropriate. Going purely on wordplay and imagery, it looks like this fan might really be on to something here.
