Horizon Call of the Mountain is now available for pre-orders, Guerrilla Games confirmed Monday. To commemorate the occasion, the Amsterdam-based studio also released a brief new trailer for the upcoming Horizon VR spinoff, showcasing some highly immersive gameplay.

Announced earlier this year, Horizon Call of the Mountain is still one of the biggest games that have so far been confirmed for the PlayStation VR2. As such, even though it's a spinoff that replaces the series' iconic protagonist with a new character, Guerrilla Games and Firesprite are already under a lot of pressure to deliver a killer PS VR2 app. Doubly so since it was confirmed that Horizon Call of the Mountain will be a PS VR2 launch title.

Today's pre-order trailer provides a fairly brief look at the upcoming game and even reuses some footage from the Horizon Call of the Mountain gameplay reveal that happened during Sony's State of Play broadcast back in June. It does, however, also show several new adrenaline-inducing sequences, including a close encounter with what looks to be a super agitated Thunderjaw. As those things were already plenty terrifying to fight in the third-person installments, just seeing them from up close in this trailer clearly underlines that highly immersive gameplay will be the main selling point of Horizon Call of the Mountain.

While the previous Horizon games starred Nora tribe machine hunter Aloy, Call of the Mountain will put players in the role of Ryas, a former warrior of the Shadow Carja clan. The story will follow Ryas's search for redemption as he embarks on a deadly scouting mission centered on a new threat to Sundom, the Carja tribe's territory originally introduced in Horizon Zero Dawn. The new protagonist is described as an expert archer and climber, so Call of the Mountain will feature bow combat and a plethora of climbing segments.

Looking at the bigger picture, Call of the Mountain might not be the only Horizon spinoff that's presently in the works. According to a recent insider report from the Far East, a Horizon MMORPG is currently in development at South Korean studio NCsoft. Between that and the fact that Horizon Forbidden West is one of this year's best-selling games, as well as the recently released PC port of Horizon Zero Dawn, it would appear that Guerrilla Games' machine-hunting franchise has a bright future ahead of it.

Horizon Call of the Mountain is coming to PS VR2 on February 22, 2023.
