Homeworld 3 is the sequel to one of the most celebrated real-time strategy games in history. The first entry in the series was the first RTS to allow players to navigate a fully three-dimensional environment. The original Homeworld was released back in 1999 and revolutionized RTS games with its authentic representation of space, as opposed to a 2D plane.

Developer Blackbird Interactive and publisher Gearbox Software revealed details during a panel at the PAX East show regarding the upcoming Homeworld 3 Collector's Edition and its availability for pre-order. From April 21, 2022, Homeworld fans in North America and select markets can pre-order the Homeworld 3 Collector’s Edition which will include both physical and digital goods that celebrate the award-winning franchise's history.

In addition to the base game and year one pass, the Homeworld 3 Collector’s Edition will also include finely crafted ship models as well as other Homeworld 3 branded items. These items have been made in collaboration with marketing innovations company Idea Planet, which has previously created collectibles and packaging in conjunction with titles such as PlayStation exclusive Horizon: Forbidden West and Far Cry 6.

As for the physical goodies included in the Homeworld 3 Collector’s Edition, fans will receive quite a few collectibles for their cash. The expansive list of physical items includes The Mothership Khar-Kushan 14-inch model, a Hiigaran Destroyer 3-inch model, Hiigaran Torpedo Frigate 1.8-inch model, Hiigaran Recon Delta formation 1.2-inch model, WW2-inspired spotter deck of ship recognition playing cards, logo keychain and finally a key art lithograph.

Digital goodies for the real time strategy game will include the Homeworld 3 base game Steam key, year one pass, ship decals, icons, banners, multiplayer name colors, and the Homeworld 3 soundtrack by composer Paul Ruskay, who worked on both previous installments of the franchise, the stand-alone title Homeworld: Emergence, and prequel Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.

Blackbird interactive, who previously developed Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak and comprises some members of the original team that developed the first entries in the franchise, also revealed that Homeworld Mobile, which was originally announced back in 2019, will finally be getting a release for iOS and Android this year.

An interesting factor in the development of the game was that Homeworld 3 allowed fans to purchase shares in the game. A crowdfunding campaign was set up on Fig allowing fans to purchase shares, which would allow them to make suggestions in the games development and receive profits from future sales equatable to their investment. This scheme came to an end when Gearbox Software was bought by the Embracer Group. It raised over $1.5m and had over 8,000 backers, but the investments were never collected. Those who backed Homeworld 3 on Fig will get priority access to Homeworld Mobile.
