Hollow Knight was a massive hit at the time of its release in 2017, earning critical acclaim for its striking art style and satisfying blend of Metroid and Dark Souls gameplay. As a result, anticipation has been high for Hollow Knight: Silksong ever since it was first announced in 2019, but the game has been quiet for years. Nintendo Directs and other industry events have come and gone with no sign of the game, but it's finally reappeared with a new trailer at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase.

Hollow Knight: Silksong received its first trailer in three years at Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, giving fans a fresh look at gameplay. In the trailer, fans can spot Hollow Knight: Silksong protagonist Hornet doing battle with a variety of enemies, exploring gorgeous 2D environments, and much more. It looks to be an extension of what fans loved about the first Hollow Knight game, which is exactly what one would want from a sequel.

While a specific Hollow Knight: Silksong release date wasn't announced at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, we now have a better idea of when to expect. It was confirmed that all the games at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase will be available within the next 12 months. This means that by this time next year, Hollow Knight fans will be able to play Hollow Knight: Silksong for themselves - barring any delays, that is.

And those with Xbox Game Pass will actually be able to play Hollow Knight: Silksong without even paying for it. As expected, the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase is focused on highlighting games that will be available with one's Xbox Game Pass subscription, and Hollow Knight: Silksong is one such game. As announced at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a day one Xbox Game Pass release.

Of course, Nintendo gamers will still be able to play Hollow Knight: Silksong on the Nintendo Switch. While the trailer makes no mention of other platforms, Hollow Knight: Silksong is not an Xbox console exclusive game. However, since Xbox Game Pass is not available on the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo gamers that want to play it will have to pay full price. Considering the hype behind Hollow Knight: Silksong though, most fans likely aren't going to be bothered by that.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is in development for PC, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
