It has been two years since Team Cherry last spoke about the upcoming Hollow Knight: Silksong. Fans of this indie Metroidvania title have been looking forward to every video game event that could bring news about the anticipated game. Unfortunately, fans were let down once again as Indie World came and went with no mention of Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The wait has been so long that Hollow Knight has been compared to other games which have taken ages to be showcased, like Elden Ring. Even more, fans have started to make memes about the endless silence regarding Silksong. Obviously, it would be amazing if Team Cherry finally announced a release date for its upcoming title. However, it might not be a bad thing that the release window for Hollow Knight: Silksong has not been revealed yet.

The Bar For Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Too High

The reason why Silksong has become one of the most anticipated games is because of the quality of Team Cherry's first game, as Hollow Knight has become one of the most beloved Metroidvania titles released in recent years. For one, the game has a beautiful art style. Every area of Hallownest has a unique ambiance filled with details and even hidden lore. Even though the characters are somewhat simplistic in their appearance, they are also charming and complex in terms of combat.

Aside from the distinct design of Hollow Knight, the game is known to be a difficult yet balanced game. The game features an impressive total of 47 bosses including those of the Godmaster DLC. If players choose to finish the game completely, Hollow Knight playthroughs can reach over 40 hours of playtime. Furthermore, Hollow Knight has a Steel Soul Mode which allows the player to do a second run on a harder difficulty, with the game restarting whenever the player dies. This adds even more replayability and potential playtime.

Another thing that has made Team Cherry's first game such a beloved title is Hollow Knight's lore and dark theme. While at first sight it might not look quite as harrowing as Dark Souls, a title that it has been often compared to, once players start to decipher the lore it is clear that Hollow Knight has a dark tone. Furthermore, since Hollow Knight is very subtle when it comes to explaining its lore, fans engage in constant conversations regarding the possible interpretations of the smallest details that could reveal more about Hallownest. Making sure that the sequel lives up to the original in all of these areas is essential, and a rushed release could get in the way of that.

There Is No Need To Rush Hollow Knight: Silksong

Given the amazing work done with the original Hollow Knight, it is only natural that fans have high expectations for Silksong. However, that quality of work requires a considerable amount of time to be completed, especially when it comes to indie games. After all, Team Cherry is composed of only three members. Furthermore, the development of Hollow Knight took over 2 years and, even though Team Cherry is now more experienced, the expectations are also higher for Silksong.

Even though there are many fans waiting for the release of Silksong, it is a good idea that Team Cherry takes its time to make sure the game is in its best possible shape. It is no secret that releasing an unfinished game could mean its complete failure even if it is later fixed through updates. Because of this, it is a wise choice for Team Cherry to make sure Silksong is polished so that it is not met with negative reviews which, when it comes to indie games, can be particularly devastating.

While there are many good reasons for Team Cherry to hold the release of Hollow Knight: Silkong, it would still be nice if there was more news about the game. Even if Team Cherry cannot promise a release date yet, fans would probably appreciate it if there was more communication to ease the wait and to keep them interested.
