When Hogwarts Legacy was first announced, the game was expected to launch at some point in 2021. Specifically, the Hogwarts Legacy Digital Deluxe and Collector's Editions have successfully enticed many fans into pre-ordering.
Those that pre-order the Hogwarts Legacy Digital Deluxe or Collector's Edition can play the highly-anticipated open world Harry Potter game three days in advance. So while the Hogwarts Legacy release date is still February 10 officially, those that pre-order those versions of the game can play on February 7 instead. When one considers how long Harry Potter fans have been waiting for a game like Hogwarts Legacy, it's no surprise at all that many are willing to pay a little extra and take a risk on a pre-order to play the game earlier than its official release date.
While the game is clearly going to be a massive sales success, there has been no shortage of controversy surrounding Hogwarts Legacy. In fact, some fans have gone as far as to call for Hogwarts Legacy boycotts in response to Harry Potter author JK Rowling's transphobic comments. It remains to be seen how such efforts will ultimately impact Hogwarts Legacy's sales, but as of now, it looks like the game has potential to be the top-selling game of 2023.
