Hogwarts Legacy won't have romance options, according to the game's developers. Harry Potter fans have been waiting quite a long time to get their hands on Hogwarts Legacy, and it's hard to believe, but the wait is nearly at an end. Anyone that pre-orders the Digital Deluxe Edition of Hogwarts Legacy can jump in as soon as Tuesday, February 7, while everyone else on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X have to wait until February 10 to see if the long-awaited open world Harry Potter games live up to the hype or not.

Hogwarts Legacy has boasted about many features that it's bringing to the table, but it hasn't touched on the possibility of romance options. The Harry Potter books and movies have dealt directly with romantic relationships, especially as the cast got older. However, this particular aspect of the Harry Potter universe isn't going to be a focus in Hogwarts Legacy, and now the developers have offered more insight as to why that is.

Hogwarts Legacy developers Moira Squier and Kelly Murphy recently spoke to German site GamePro (as translated by The Game Spoof) about the game's lack of romance options. According to Squier, the decision was made to leave romance options out of Hogwarts Legacy because it would be "difficult to manage" with Murphy pointing out that the game's main character is only 15 years old. "There are things that we just didn't want to touch on thematically." Considering the age of the characters and how admittedly clumsy Harry Potter has been with love interests in the past, it is likely for the best that Hogwarts Legacy is not implementing romance options.

While Hogwarts Legacy will not have romance options, players can still develop relationships with the friends that they make at the school. Each Hogwarts House has a specific companion that players can interact with and complete quests for, strengthening their relationship with that particular character in the process.

Hogwarts Legacy does not have romance options, but other video games in the Harry Potter franchise have offered the feature. For example, the visual novel game Hogwarts Mystery eventually added dating and romance options when the characters got older, so perhaps a Hogwarts Legacy sequel or DLC could experiment with it. For now, Hogwarts Legacy players will have to enjoy their adventures at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry without worrying about any potential romance options.

Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4, and the Nintendo Switch port dropping July 25.
