Hogwarts Legacy is set to give players the opportunity to experience life as a student in the wizarding world’s most famous school. The game will allow players to create their own wizards, pick a house, attend classes, learn spells, discover secrets, and explore the castle of Hogwarts and its surrounding areas. During the recent PlayStation State of Play, it was also hinted that broomstick flight mechanics will be in the game, which could also bring in the popular wizard sport of Quidditch to Hogwarts Legacy.

In 2003, Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, a sports game that let players compete within Hogwarts as well as the World Cup, was released. The game became an instant classic and over the years fans have wanted a new Quidditch game that would emulate the modern sports game as we know it. With Hogwarts Legacy hinting at the possibility of Quidditch, there is a strong chance that fans will get a chance to take to the skies and play through the Quidditch World Cup once again.

While there are a lot of elements in the world of Harry Potter that became fan-favorites, Quidditch is one of the few that extended outside the realm of books and movies. Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup lets players control famous Quidditch players from Hogwarts and International teams as they compete for dominance on broomsticks.

With Hogwarts Legacy set to release this year, a new Quidditch game or the revival of the old Quidditch World Cup is a possibility. As a spin-off for Hogwarts Legacy, a Quidditch game could give players the chance to play through a “season” in Hogwarts with the hopes of progressing their player to a national team, which would add a lot more content than the 2003 game.

Since the State of Play has already hinted at the possibility of in-depth broom mechanics, it is not out of the question that Hogwarts Legacy itself will have an in-depth Quidditch game mode. The game itself lets players decide their own path in the wizarding world, which could include becoming a professional Quidditch player for one of the national teams and competing against the powerhouses such as the Bulgarian National Team, the strongest team in Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup, as well as the books and movies.

Whether released as a game mode within Hogwarts Legacy, or even possibly as a DLC expansion later on, Quidditch would be a welcome addition to the already content-packed game and could give players more freedom as they progress through their school year at Hogwarts. It could introduce new timed missions, forcing players to go through a tryout and play through Quidditch games for certain prizes like faster broomsticks and NPC companions.

Possible Quidditch Game Modes

If a new Quidditch game were to be released, it would need to have much more content than the original Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. In that game, players could play three game modes: exhibition, Hogwarts, or World Cup. The exhibition allowed players to pick any team and play through a game, similar to the quick games in modern sports games.

The Hogwarts and World Cup game modes gave players the chance to compete for the House Cup in Hogwarts or for the Quidditch World Cup by selecting a team and trying to beat out their competitors. For a new game to be successful though, there would need to be many more options that would give players a variety of game modes to try out.

While having tournament game modes like Hogwarts or World Cup should still make it into the possible game, game modes that let players play through seven Hogwarts years and try to win it all with their house in a season-style mode would increase the content available for players. Another possibility is game modes that let players control a single character, rather than an entire team, like FIFA’s Player Career Mode, with the ability to improve the created player’s skills and abilities. These game modes would be instrumental in making the possible Quidditch game a more successful game than Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup.

The world of Harry Potter is filled with many exciting things that fans will get to experience in Hogwarts Legacy. While Quidditch has not been confirmed for the game, the fact that players get to select their house, undertake side missions, and fly on brooms, could all mean that Quidditch will be available. However, with the large popularity of the wizarding sport, there is also a need for a standalone Quidditch game that will act as a sports and arcade game for fans of Harry Potter to enjoy.
