Unlike most video games, Hogwarts Legacy doesn't have a single release date - it has four. Hogwarts Legacy has been one of the industry's most hotly-anticipated games since it was first announced in 2020. The hype is high leading up to the game's launch, which is merely a couple of months away at this point. However, not everyone will get to play the game on the previously-announced February 10 release date.

The PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions of Hogwarts Legacy officially launch on February 10, 2023. Those who have yet to upgrade to new consoles should know that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy were delayed to launch on April 4 instead. And finally, Nintendo Switch gamers have the longest wait ahead of them, as that particular version of Hogwarts Legacy won't be available until July 25, 2023.

However, the Hogwarts Legacy release date situation is even more complicated than that because some gamers will have the chance to play it early. Those that decide to pre-order the Deluxe, Digital Deluxe, or Collector's Edition of Hogwarts Legacy get 72 hours early access, making the game available on February 7 instead of February 10. Of course, this only applies to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions for now. It has yet to be clarified if 72 hours early access will be applicable to the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions of the game. If so, then PS4 and Xbox One gamers willing to spend some extra cash would get to play on April 1, whereas the Switch version would be available July 22.

Hogwarts Legacy Release Date

  • February 7 (PC/PS5/Xbox Series X early access)
  • February 10 (PC/PS5/Xbox Series X official launch date)
  • April 4 (PS4/Xbox One)
  • July 25 (Nintendo Switch)

More information on the other versions of Hogwarts Legacy will likely come to light after the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X version launches on February 10. Avalanche will likely want to focus on ensuring that the Hogwarts Legacy launch goes smoothly for the versions that will be available first. When that's done, fans can expect the focus to shift to the older versions of the game.

Regardless, there will likely be many fans who are unhappy about the staggered release schedule for Hogwarts Legacy. Those that haven't upgraded their consoles will potentially have to wait months to play the game, which puts them at a greater risk for getting spoilers. The alternative would be to delay the Hogwarts Legacy release date again, and it seems that Warner Bros. wants to avoid that particular scenario.

Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4 and a Nintendo Switch port dropping July 25.
