The greatly anticipated Hogwarts Legacy is garnering serious buzz in the run-up to its release date, and it is no secret as to why. The game is aiming to curate and provide the most holistic and expansive experience of being a student at Hogwarts that gaming has ever seen.

A large part of the experience that Hogwarts Legacy will offer to players is the choice of which Hogwarts house they join. While not yet confirmed, it makes sense to assume that these different choices of house will provide different gameplay elements, character design, and story interactions. A comparatively lesser known house that still commands a cult following within the Harry Potter franchise is of course Ravenclaw, complete with its own deep history and lore.

The upcoming Hogwarts Legacy is actively being developed by Avalanche Software and is being published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and is aiming to be an action-adventure RPG with a dynamic open world ripe for exploration. Primarily set within the prestigious wizarding school of Hogwarts, the story takes place during the 1890s, a generally unexplored time period in the franchise. Gamers will be able to experience many facets of life at Hogwarts, including comprehensive character customization and the ability to choose a specific Hogwarts house.

Legacy will see players deeply involved in the life of being a student at Hogwarts, which will reportedly lead to a "dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world." Within the game, players will be able to master a variety of spells, upgrade combat and traversal abilities, brew potions, and tame magical beasts as just a fraction of the promised experience.

The History of House Ravenclaw

House Ravenclaw is an ever-present facet of Hogwarts life, being one of the four historic houses within the ancient school. As is the norm with all of Hogwarts' houses, Ravenclaw is named after the last name of its founding member.

Ravenclaw's founding member was Rowena Ravenclaw, a Scottish witch born in the 900s. United by a shared goal to create the best magical school on Earth, Rowena and three of her closest friends created Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the year 993, with the four houses of the school resultantly being created.

Unintended or not, the values of these four houses reflected the personalities of their respective founders, with Ravenclaw being no exception. Rowena was known to be deeply creative and intelligent, with these traits being the key deciding factors for whether new students were sorted into house Ravenclaw. Throughout its history, the house has maintained these characteristics as its core identity, with Ravenclaw students being renowned for their wit, learning, wisdom, and creativity.

As a result of these likely traits, there are many famous witches and wizards within Harry Potter lore that are past Ravenclaw students. Many of these individuals are predictably famous inventors, with the creators of Love Potions and Floo Powder being Ravenclaw alumni, to name a few. The higher levels of intelligence often found within Ravenclaw students has also seen them rise to high positions of power, with past Hogwarts headmasters and several Ministers for Magic also being historic Ravenclaw members.

With the deep history and respectable values that Ravenclaw commands, it is clear to see why it is such a revered institution within Hogwarts. Considering the sheer scale of successful past members of house Ravenclaw, it is clearly a house worth choosing within the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to release holiday 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
