A fan of Hogwarts Legacy published a short video highlighting the main differences between the PS4 and PS5 versions of this action RPG. Hogwarts Legacy lets players create their own wizards and attend classes at Hogwarts long before the era of Harry Potter and his friends.

Hogwarts Legacy was initially released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in February 2023, letting players discover a large open world inspired by the Wizarding World as they live their own adventures in this popular universe. Despite controversies surrounding the creator of Harry Potter, Hogwarts Legacy was a commercial success, selling over 12 million copies two weeks after its release. After three months of being a next-gen and PC exclusive, Hogwarts Legacy was released on PS4 and Xbox One on May 5, letting more players discover the mysteries of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

TikTok account WePC Gaming shared a video to showcase the graphical differences between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Hogwarts Legacy. The technical improvements of the next-gen console compared to its predecessor allow for more details on both the foreground and background, as well as improved shadows and lights. However, the PS4 version of Hogwarts Legacy is still decent, and while it displays fewer details than the next-gen version its graphics remain correct and the game seems to run smoothly at 60 FPS.

In the comments to this TikTok video, players were not surprised to see the differences between the graphics on the PS4 and PS5 versions of Hogwarts Legacy. Considering the gap in technology between the two generations of Sony consoles, players were not expecting the same level of detail on both versions. They still commended the PS4 version of Hogwarts Legacy for running good graphics smoothly, offering a high enough quality for players to enjoy the game. However, users who commented on this video wondered how Hogwarts Legacy could possibly run on a Nintendo Switch.

The recent launch of Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 and Xbox One should attract new players eager to create their own character in the Wizarding World but lacking the next-gen consoles to play the game earlier. Hogwarts Legacy has already sold 256% more than WB Games’ predicted sales, generating over $1 billion in retail sales since its release. The developer hasn’t planned any DLC to continue the main story of Hogwarts Legacy, leaving players to wonder what is next for this popular game.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, with a Switch port releasing July 25.
