Avalanche Software has teased that Hogwarts Legacy will allow players to pet the various cats that may be in their favorite common rooms. Given how long it's been since the last major Harry Potter console game, many fans of the wizarding world are anticipating Hogwarts Legacy, with the cat lovers among them being able to express their affection in-game.One of the many Harry Potter social media channels has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy fans will be able to pet cats, one potential available animal for Hogwarts students to bring to the castle. Because Hogwarts Legacy follows much of the lore of Harry Potter without carrying the franchise name, players will join either Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, learn spells, attend classes, and more. Like students in the Harry Potter films, this may also mean that Hogwarts Legacy fans may be joined in their journey through wizarding school by an owl, cat, or toad.RELATED: Hogwarts Legacy Details Mooncalf Magical CreatureThe Harry Potter Film Twitter account confirmed Hogwarts Legacy players will be able to pet the many cats in the game, with a video shared of a student kneeling to pat a short-furred gray kitty. Beyond simply petting the animal, these Hogwarts Legacy cats will also brush against a character's leg much like they would in real life, and they react to the affection similarly. Although the clip concludes before showing any other animals, it's likely that there will be a bunch of different types of the Hogwarts Legacy pet like Mrs. Norris or Crookshanks from the main series.

With Hogwarts Legacy cat owners being able to pet their cats, it begs the question of which animals players will be able to interact with, and if owls and toads will receive similar treatment. Based on their Hogwarts Legacy robe colors, the player in Harry Potter Film's video seems to be a member of Gryffindor, but it's likely that the feature will be open to all students regardless of the house they belong to. The Harry Potter series is also known to have professors that turn into cats which means that some of them may be transformed teachers and not just the pet of a student or caretaker.

Because each house has its own common room which will house its own unique characters, players that join Hogwarts Legacy's Slytherin may not be able to interact with pets in Gryffindor's common room or vice versa. The ability to pet Hogwarts Legacy cats and potentially more animals may inspire some pet enthusiasts to explore every inch of Hogwarts to see if any critters are hiding in corners or behind objects.

Hogwarts Legacy releases on February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, on April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One, and on July 25 for Nintendo Switch.
