A newly-released clip of the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy game shows what an encounter with Peeves the poltergeist will be like in the game. The Hogwarts Legacy game is taking clear inspiration from the Harry Potter movies in terms of its graphics, art style, and the way it presents Hogwarts castle. However, the game is also set to include various elements that were only featured in the books and never showcased in the movies. The Harry Potter books make mention of various characters that never appear in the movies, including Peeves the poltergeist. Peeves is a mischievous poltergeist that lives to cause chaos and prank students and teachers alike at Hogwarts. Peeves is not technically a ghost, but he has many powers associated with ghosts all the same, like floating in the air and phasing through walls.RELATED: Hogwarts Legacy Doesn’t Have a Morality System, Players Can Be EvilThat's exactly what happens in one of the latest clips released by the official Hogwarts Legacy Twitter account. In the clip, Peeves floats through a wall, startling a Hogwarts student and making them drop their books. Peeves blocks the student's path as he tries to leave and taunts him with a rhyme about the boys' bathroom. The student pleads for the poltergeist to leave him alone so that he's not late for his next class, but the clip cuts off before fans can see what happens next.

This is not the first time that Hogwarts Legacy has shown off an encounter with Peeves, and so it seems Hogwarts students will generally need to be on the lookout for him as they make their way through the castle. Players can expect to run into more traditional ghosts in Hogwarts as well, with one familiar face being that of Nearly-Headless Nick, an apparition that was featured in both the Harry Potter books and the movies.

The freedom to explore an open world Hogwarts while encountering various characters from the Harry Potter universe is a big part of Hogwarts Legacy's appeal. Players will have more than 100 side quests to complete while exploring Hogwarts Legacy's vast open world, so there should be a ton of content for fans to sink their teeth into come launch.

Luckily, the wait for the Hogwarts Legacy release date is nearly at an end. Those that pre-order the Digital Deluxe Edition of Hogwarts Legacy can jump into the action starting February 7, but everyone else only has to wait a few extra days to try the highly-anticipated open world Harry Potter game for themselves. Time will tell if the game lives up to the hype, but fans don't have to wait too much longer to find out.

Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with PS4 and Xbox One versions coming April 4, and a Switch port releasing July 25.
