One of the last spells players will learn in Hogwarts Legacy is Arresto Momentum, a control spell that slows down or outright stops the target in its tracks. Arresto Momentum is a surprisingly versatile spell and one that players will undoubtedly be able to make good use of, but they'll need to progress far enough in the story to learn the spell first. The spell is taught to the player by Madam Kogawa, so it should come as no surprise that the player's broom will come in handy when completing her assignment.
Spells in Hogwarts Legacy are typically learned in one of three ways. Most spells are learned after completing a variety of assignments for one of the many professors at Hogwarts, while others are taught to the player just for attending classes. Finally, some spells aren't sanctioned to be taught at Hogwarts, and players will need to rely on their friends or other benefactors to learn these spells. In the case of Arresto Momentum, players will need to complete Madam Kogawa's second assignment in order to add this spell to their repertoire.
Completing Madam Kogawa's Assignment 2
Madam Kogawa's Assignment 2 is very similar to her first one in that players must get some flying practice by popping balloons. The notable difference is that the areas with the balloons is much further from Hogwarts this time, with players needing to venture out to the Spires and Keenbridge Tower.
Even so, completing this assignment is easy, as players just need to fly into all five balloons at both locations and then return to Madam Kogawa. At this point in the story, players will have already unlocked Hogwarts Legacy's flying mount, so they can even choose to bust balloons on Highwing instead of their broom if they so choose.
Learning Arresto Momentum
Head to Madam Kogawa's office and report on the completed assignments, and she will offer to teach the player Arresto Momentum. By now, players should have the spell learning mechanic of Hogwarts Legacy down to a science.
Simply follow the pattern shown on the screen by aiming the cursor along the path. Press the appropriate buttons as they appear in order to gain a burst of speed. Failure isn't the end of the world, as players can simply try again. Once the spell is learned, it can be equipped to any spot on one of the player's spell sets.
How to Use Arresto Momentum
Arresto Momentum has several applications, the most obvious of which is combat. Casting this spell on an opponent will cause them to float upside down in the air for a long time. The spell lasts longer than Levioso and completely removes enemies from the battle while active.
It also has a special effect when used while battling Ashwinder and Poacher Executioners. Outside of combat, the spell can be used to slow objects or stop magical beasts, making them much easier to rescue.
Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on April 4; the Nintendo Switch version is arriving on July 25, 2023.
