There are a ton of spells to learn and master in Hogwarts Legacy, so much so that players will quickly find themselves running out of spell slots for them. At the start of the game, new Hogwarts students only have one Spell Set available that allows them to have four spells active at any given time. This is enough when players only know Lumos, Leviosa, Accio, and Incendio, but quickly becomes inadequate as more spells become available. Thankfully, there's a way to get more Spell Sets, allowing for a total of 16 spells to be equipped at once.

Specifically, there are 31 spells for players to learn in Hogwarts Legacy, so it's easy to see how one Spell Set with only four slots is not nearly enough. Even with all four Spell Sets unlocked, players won't be able to have every spell they know active at once, but it's easy enough to switch them around. New Spell Sets can be gained by spending Talent Points.

How to Unlock Talent Points

Before players can get their second Spell Set, they will need to progress through Hogwarts Legacy's story until they unlock Talent Points and the ability to spend them on Talents. This happens relatively early on in the game, at the moment when the player finds the map chamber underneath Hogwarts.

The quest just before this one sees players exploring Jackdaw's Tomb, a spider-infested dungeon with a Pensieve Guardian boss at the end. Talk to the portrait of Percival Rackham, and he will unlock Talent Points for the player.

With Talents unlocked, players will earn a Talent Point every time they level up and probably have several saved up by now already. These can be spent in various different categories, but unlocking new Spell Sets requires spending points in Hogwarts Legacy's Core Talents section. The following Talents each unlock a new Spell Set for the player to use:

  • Spell Knowledge I - Level 5 Core Talent
  • Spell Knowledge II - Level 5 Core Talent
  • Spell Knowledge III - Level 16 Core Talent

Players can switch between available Spell Sets by holding down the basic cast button and using the directional pad on controllers. For PC players, F1, F2, F3, and F4, (or 5, 6, 7, 8) switch between Spell Sets 1, 2, 3, and 4. Each Spell Set can hold four different spells, which can easily be swapped in and out for maximum flexibility.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now for PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. The game is in development for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
