Hogwarts Legacy follows the life of a fifth-year student during their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. What begins as a relatively simple story, however, quickly becomes an exceedingly dangerous tale, as dark forces are at work behind the scenes.

As such, it isn't uncommon to encounter threatening foes while exploring Hogwarts Legacy's vast world, and though some may prefer to avoid combat, they may need to seek certain enemies out if they hope to obtain some unique items. Troll Bogeys are no exception, but finding a way to acquire some can be quite challenging if the player doesn't know where to look.

What Are Troll Bogeys?

For fans of Harry Potter who watched The Philosopher's Stone, the term "Troll bogeys" will be quite familiar, as Ron exclaimed the term in disgust upon seeing Harry's Troll Bogey-covered wand. In Hogwarts Legacy, Troll Bogeys seem to be the very same bogeys encountered in the movie, but now they can be used to make potions.

Troll Bogeys can be used to make Invisibility Potions and are therefore pretty important items for players who wish to prioritize stealth. Though the Disillusionment Charm provides casters with the same effects, using Invisibility Potions has a few advantages the spell does not.

Buying Troll Bogeys

For those who hope to acquire Troll Bogeys quickly and cheaply, purchasing them from J. Pippin's Potions in Hogsmeade is probably the best method. They sell for a measly 100 Galleons, so players can obtain a number of them quite easily if they are willing to part with some money.

Unfortunately, obtaining Troll Bogeys via J. Pippin's Potions isn't overly reliable, as his stock is limited. If players wish to acquire more Troll Bogeys than what J. Pippin has in stock, they will need to venture out into the wizarding world in search of Trolls.

Finding Trolls

Though Trolls aren't overly common enemies, they are guaranteed to spawn in certain locations, which can make farming Troll Bogeys a much less arduous task. When J. Pippin's wares have been depleted, players should head out into the world in search of Troll Lairs. These lairs are marked on the map with an upside-down triangle, in which lies a black-and-white image of a cave opening. Not all of these markers refer to Troll Lairs, however, so players should ensure to hover over each marker they find to ensure they have found the right spot.

Two Troll Lairs can be found in Feldcroft, while another is located near Poidsear Castle. Upon entering these locations, the player will be forced to battle and defeat a Troll. These battles can be quite tough seeing that Trolls hit considerably hard, but so long as the player dodges away from red attacks and is prepared to parry incoming boulders, the battle shouldn't last too long. Once a Troll has been defeated, it can drop up to three Troll Bogeys, but the amount that drops can vary.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PS5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC. PS4, Xbox One, and Switch versions are currently in development.
