Harry Potter’s Gryffindor house has been a high-point for the franchise. With many key student characters from Gryffindor, it makes sense that it would be represented in such a positive light. The Gryffindor common room is the most iconic of all, but only because few other houses are represented as much. In Hogwarts Legacy, players will be able to experience as much of any common room they desire, so long as they choose that house for their character. Still, Hogwarts Legacy’s Gryffindor may have interesting characters.

Natsai Onai is the Gryffindor student companion in Hogwarts Legacy, and the third companion character revealed. It seems as though each house would have its own companion character, though a potential companion from Ravenclaw has been neglected thus far. Players may be interested in engaging with Slytherin and Hufflepuff’s companions as a way to diversify from the traditional iconography, but Gryffindor’s Natsai could still be an incredible character with the potential for unique mechanics.

Natsai Onai Could Introduce Players to Wandless Magic in Hogwarts Legacy

Coming from the largest wizarding school in the world, it would be great to hear about Natsai’s experiences attending Uagadou. According to official Pottermore lore, wands are a European invention and not a custom in Africa. Instead, Uagadou students could wave their hands in gestures or point a finger to cast spells. This has apparently resulted in magical mishaps explained away as unintentional, where magic could be cast on accident.

This seems to be a dangerous magical aptitude in the wrong hands, since the student would not need to have a wand on them at all times. Rather, it could also be great for self-defense purposes. If Natsai had developed her own skill with wandless magic, it is possible she could teach the player how to cast certain spells without a wand as well.

However, since it seems like players will always have a wand equipped in Hogwarts Legacy, learning wandless magic may not be of any real significance. It would be interesting if players could learn wandless magic and have that skill prepared for any instance where gameplay may omit the player’s wand. Natsai will hopefully be willing to share this information with the player, as well as any other magical tricks she learned while attending Uagadou.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Gryffindor Companion Character May Have Interesting Divination Insights

Natsai Onai’s companion questline in Hogwarts Legacy may also involve her mother in a significant role. Natsai’s mother is Hogwarts Legacy’s Divination Professor, hence their move from Matabeleland, Africa to Scotland. It will be interesting to see what Natsai’s relationship with her mother is like, and if she shares any of her mother’s Divination insights.

If so, players could meet with Natsai to study in their leisure hours, such as being treated to prophetic omens in Hogwarts Legacy’s Gryffindor common room. Reading into Divination more thoroughly may have an effect on how player’s perceive the game’s narrative, and it could also tease what may come of the player and Natsai’s friendship throughout her companion questline.

Natsai seems to have a lot of complexity, and as a Gryffindor student it seems natural to pin her down as brave and righteous. But her magical upbringing is perhaps most intriguing, and will hopefully be represented well in Hogwarts Legacy’s narrative.

Hogwarts Legacy releases February 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is also in development.
