Hogwarts Legacy’s magical creatures are all engaging and diverse, whether they can be domesticated and bred back at the castle or fought out in the open world. Players will likely feel nostalgic for Harry Potter as they take on the immersive role of a late fifth-year student, but because magical beasts play such a large late-game role in the core clothing upgrade loop, Hogwarts Legacy also takes several pages out of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. One particular creature that Hogwarts Legacy references is the enigmatic Demiguise, but its role is much different than fans may suspect.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Demiguises are as elusive as they are in the source material lore, but are only represented as statues and not the actual creature. Players will see them throughout the game as they make their way through narrow corridors and cramped office spaces in the castle, though they will only know their purpose upon meeting the eccentric Gladwin Moon. This NPC will want players to collect the moons held by these Demiguise statues, and there are a few tips and tricks players can keep in mind when attempting to track them down in pursuit of some of Hogwarts Legacy’s most important upgrades.

Hogwarts Legacy’s Demiguise Moons Are Integral Collectibles

Demiguise moons are incredibly valuable collectibles that should be snatched up while players see them, especially because it can be difficult to remember where players had last discovered them in Hogwarts Legacy’s enormity. However, players will notice that Demiguise statues cannot always be interacted with, and this might cause confusion as to how they are meant to retrieve them.

Players do not need to wait for a particular spell or item, though, and must simply turn to their map menu to manually wait until nightfall. Once it is nighttime, these statues will relinquish their illuminated moons for players to loot. Players may want to consider this when exploring Hogwarts Legacy’s open-world Highlands and continue switching the time of day when they are out searching for Demiguise statues, but it is not difficult to swap to nighttime either way once a statue is found.

Where to Look for Early-Game Demiguise Moons in Hogwarts Legacy

Players thankfully do not need to painstakingly scan every single inch of an interior to find a Demiguise, either, since their character will often explicitly say, “Mine now, Demiguise” when they are near one, even if players have not yet seen one themselves in the area. This is particularly true in the tiny buildings players can enter into while exploring remote hamlets or Hogsmeade’s locked homes, which is where players should immediately start looking for Demiguise statues if they are desperate for Alohomora upgrades.

There will be many tiny cottages players pass on their broomstick that can be hit with an overhead Revelio cast in order to see if anything of value is there. Otherwise, players can also simply consult the open-world map and check the completion percentage of each area to see a record of how many moons can be found.

Therefore, players have many ways to find Demiguise statues and that only becomes easier the further players have traveled from the castle. It is actually counterintuitive to search most of Hogsmeade or Hogwarts for Demiguise statues earlier in the game because players will not have higher tiers of Hogwarts Legacy’s Alohomora available yet, but once they do, they will have a much simpler time ransacking locked areas for their loot.

Hogwarts Legacy is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. PS4 and Xbox One ports are scheduled to release on May 5, and the Nintendo Switch version arrives July 25, 2023.
