Not much is known about Hogwarts Legacy’s antagonists besides the fact that there is a goblin rebellion taking place in the game’s 1800s setting, establishing Ranrok and Victor Rookwood as its potential main antagonists. Hogwarts Legacy’s cinematic reveal teaser also alluded to another figure players have not seen since, and it is therefore unknown how many antagonists could appear. Of course, there will be many enemies and creatures for players to encounter, and there is even a possibility that players’ befriended classmates may become antagonists in Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy features NPC companions who come from each Hogwarts house, as well as other classmates that players will meet during their time at school. It will be interesting to see how each of these relationships develop as players explore the castle grounds, attend classes, and enjoy leisurely trips to Hogsmeade. However, the player’s relationships with companions should be tested in terms of which dialogue options they choose in critical moments. If conversations turn sour and players do not tread softly, it would be fun to see loyal companions become spiteful and hateful toward them.

Many Suspect That Hogwarts Legacy’s Companions Are Potential Antagonists

It is common speculation that one of Hogwarts Legacy’s companions may be a secret antagonist. There are two reasons that fans have for believing this: Ravenclaw’s companion character, Amit Thakkar, was revealed much later than his companion counterparts from other houses, and Hufflepuff’s Poppy Sweeting seems much too innocent and unassuming.

These are obviously purely speculative reasons to assume why a companion may turn out to be an antagonist, but there is still good reason to predict that companions could become antagonistic and turn on the player at some point in Hogwarts Legacy’s narrative. If NPC companions become antagonists, that would be thrilling in a single playthrough, but after that one playthrough players would see it coming.

Still, that premise does not deter fans from wanting to replay any game, and it would be interesting to see if players could achieve a different outcome by choosing different dialogue options when talking to that character. It is also possible that companions may not all have the ability to become antagonists, and could simply offer a playful and lighthearted tone in their own questlines. Rather, the possibility of a happy ending does not seem to be in the cards for Slytherin’s companion character.

Hogwarts Legacy’s RPG Dialogue Should Have a Lasting Effect on Companions

Hogwarts Legacy’s Sebastian Sallow has already been portrayed at length, with his entire questline seemingly revealed as leading to dark magic. This is likely the natural course of action for his character, but it should be entirely determined on how players respond to him in dialogue whether he becomes antagonistic or not.

It is possible that while he submits naively to the dark arts, he could be talked into helping the player reverse whatever he has caused. The two could then defend themselves against Inferi and attempt to right what they have wronged together, while also hopefully finding an amicable means of curing Sebastian’s ailing sister.

If they are unable to, then at least Sebastian will hopefully have the time to spend with his sister while she is still around, and mourn her peacefully when she is gone. It would be incredible if all companions have this dichotomy to their character relationships, where two endings are achievable based on the dialogue options players select.

This would round out each character dynamically and require players to be careful about which dialogue they are selecting, since it may be possible that endings in Hogwarts Legacy could also be affected by these choices with regard to what kind of character the player’s avatar turns out to be.

Hogwarts Legacy releases February 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Switch version is also in development.
