Hogwarts Legacy is one of this year’s most highly anticipated games. Controversy has obviously already been stirred around its conception and the source material’s author, but there are many who are still excited to experience the unwritten mythology that WB Games Avalanche has created in Hogwarts Legacy’s distinctive wizarding world. Hogwarts Legacy is still tentatively scheduled to release sometime this holiday, but as that window draws nearer without a concrete release date to look forward to, fans have become skeptical about whether that window will be fulfilled.
Recently, Hogwarts Legacy may have received a potentially substantial leak from Amazon’s UK retailer. The retailer now lists a compendium art book titled The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy: Exploring the Unwritten Wizarding World that is available for pre-order. Notably, the art book has now been spotted with a release date of December 6 on the UK version of the site. This has prompted fans to believe that the game will officially release then in tandem with the book, and there are multiple parallels that support this release date from another art book compendium being released from Insight Editions.
Gotham Knights’ Collector’s Compendium Lends Credence to Hogwarts Legacy
The most significant evidence thus far that Hogwarts Legacy’s release date is indeed December 6 is due to Gotham Knights, another Warner Bros. Interactive and WB Games property. Gotham Knights’ Official Collector’s Compendium releases on the same day as the game, October 25, and its pre-order listing on Amazon correctly corresponds with this information.
Interestingly, Hogwarts Legacy’s own compendium is listed with what fans believe to be a placeholder date of December 31 on Amazon’s NA retailer, while the UK retailer lists it with a release date of December 6. This is possibly due to Amazon’s UK listing mistakenly leaking the release date, where the NA retailer has yet to confirm its date in order to avoid spoiling the intended release date. However, as VGC has previously mentioned, Gotham Knights’ compendium officially releases on a Tuesday. This would seem to coincide with Hogwarts Legacy’s compendium release on December 6, which also happens to land on a Tuesday, and could further corroborate its legitimacy.
Amazon’s UK retailer switching its date from the aforementioned placeholder of December 31 may or may not suggest that an official release date announcement for Hogwarts Legacy is imminent. Although this information looks to be a proper leak with enough to discern it as legitimate, fans will need to ultimately wait until an official confirmation is announced. Before that happens, fans should still take this Amazon UK listing with a grain of salt.
If Hogwarts Legacy Was Going to Be Delayed, It Likely Would Have Happened Already
Further, Hogwarts Legacy’s compendium release date, if true, would also suggest that the game will not be receiving a delay. Because the holiday season is only a few months away, it is strange that an official release date has not yet been announced. This has prompted many fans to believe that Hogwarts Legacy might be delayed again, whether because of internal development issues or some other concern in the final months of polish before launch. Hogwarts Legacy is able to operate under peculiar circumstances here, where without a confirmed release date they may still be able to delay it further if need be and not completely disrupt fans’ expectations of when it may be ready to launch.
All that fans have had to go off of is a release window of this holiday, and that could still be pushed if WB Games Avalanche needed it to be. However, the compendium suggests that such a delay will not occur, and that fans will be receiving the game when WB Games Avalanche previously said they would. This would be a relief to players whose highly anticipated games have been delayed recently, and would mark this autumn and holiday season as particularly special for releases from WB Games with both Gotham Knights and Hogwarts Legacy.
