Today, Sony held a PlayStation State of Play event to show off new information about upcoming PlayStation 4 games, PlayStation VR games, and some footage of PlayStation 5 games. During the event, IO Interactive showed off a new trailer for Hitman 3 that confirmed a virtual reality mode is coming to the game.

Hitman 3 was originally shown off in another PlayStation centered event, the game made its jump onto the scene during the PlayStation 5 conference in June. During that time it was announced that Hitman 3 would be the last game for the World of Assassination trilogy. While the series has received positively overall, some fans have criticized the game for being fairly repetitive. Hopefully, the inclusion of a virtual reality mode will be something to win those criticizers over.

The trailer starts off with the classic third-person view that Hitman fans have grown accustomed to, however, the camera zooms in to a first-person view and gives players a chance to see the world as Agent 47. From there, Agent 47 begins to walk around the building, full of people, and watch others as they pass by. Ultimately, Agent 47 follows a target into a restroom and pulls out a wire to assumably choke out his victim. This addition to the game marks the first time that a VR mode has added to the Hitman franchise.

The trailer ends with a title card explaining that players can play each game in the World of Assassination trilogy of the Hitman reboot in VR. IO Interactive hasn't offered any other information about the VR modes coming to the three games at the time of writing. Although, judging from the trailer it looks like players can freely walk around without having to use the teleporting system found in other VR games.

Players may also be able to use Agent 47's hands individually with PlayStation Move controllers, judging by the trailer, and interact with different objects, such as the drink in the trailer, around the area. Lastly, no exact release date was offered for Hitman 3 but the trailer reaffirmed the game is scheduled for a January 2021 release date.

In other Hitman news, the trilogy was recently announced to joining the Google Stadia library. At the latest Google Stadia event, Hitman 3 was announced to be launching on the streaming service at the same time it would be on other home consoles, which is a big deal to Stadia consumers as that scenario is not always the case. It was also announced that the other two Hitman games in the World of Assassination trilogy will be joining the Stadia lineup later this year.

Hitman 3 is scheduled to release for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X in January of 2021.
