Hitman 3 is just on the horizon and players are eager to jump into IO Interactive's dramatic conclusion to the Hitman, World of Assassination trilogy, which started with Hitman in 2016. One thing that makes the World of Assassination trilogy unique is that IO Interactive, allows the levels and locations from previous games to be imported into Hitman 3. In addition, the latest game can now also import player progression such as location mastery levels from Hitman 2.

Players wanting to import their previous Hitman data will need to perform the following steps before getting started in Hitman 3. Please note that importing previous Hitman 2 progression will overwrite any existing and current Hitman 3 progression. The most important thing is that players will need to have an IO Interactive account in order to import Hitman 2 progression into Hitman 3.

Importing player progression, levels, and locations can only be done within the same platform family. For example, players may transfer Hitman 2 data on PlayStation to Hitman 3 on PlayStation but cannot transfer PlayStation data over to Xbox and vice versa for Xbox players. For PC players, they have the option to transfer their Steam data over to Epic since the latest game is found over there for this release. Stadia Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 will automatically be shared with Hitman 3. Hitman 2 is not available on Nintendo Switch as a standalone game so transferring that progression is not possible.

What Is Imported

Importing content into Hitman 3 is broken up into two main parts, levels and locations from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2, and Hitman 2 player progression. When importing player progression, players will get access to their Hitman 2 player profile, XP rank, location mastery levels, location mastery unlocks, challenge progress, challenge unlocks, and Elusive Target suits/unlocks.

Importing Levels and Locations

Access Passes allow players to download Hitman and Hitman 2 levels and locations as DLC for use in Hitman 3 though they'll need to own both games first in order to download their respective DLC. Hitman 1 owners who have not previously downloaded the Hitman 1 Legacy Pack for Hitman 2, will need to download it from the in-game store. Keep in mind that this Legacy Pack can only be used in Hitman 2 and will download Hitman 1 levels and locations for use there and not directly into Hitman 3.

Once players have downloaded the Hitman 1 Legacy Pack for Hitman 2, they can then download the Hitman 2 Access Pack from the Hitman 2 in-game store. Hitman 2 has three different Access Passes available depending on what version of the game they own including the Standard Edition, Expansion Pass, or Gold Edition.

Existing PC players will need to stay tuned to IO Interactive's official statement on importing Hitman 2 locations into Hitman 3. Most recently IO Interactive has guaranteed that existing Hitman 2 owners will not be forced to rebuy the game due to the transition from Steam to the Epic Games Store. New PC players will have access to Hitman 2 Access Pass for 80% off for the first 14 days after Hitman 3 launch.

Downloading the Hitman 2 Access Pass after the Hitman 1 Legacy Pack will allow all previous content to be bundled inside of the Access Pass. What's better is that by downloading the Hitman 2 Access Pass for Hitman 3 will also upgrade the Hitman 1 Legacy Pack to the Game of the Year version at no additional charge. PC players who pre-order or purchase Hitman 3 within 10 days of launch will also be granted the Hitman 1 Game of the Year Legacy Pack for free. Once the Hitman 2 Access Pass is downloaded, Hitman 3 players will finally have all levels and locations from the previous games ready to go.

Importing Hitman 2 Progression

The next phase of the import focuses on transferring the player's progression from previous games into Hitman 3. Transferring Agent 47’s progression allows players to start Hitman 3 with their Hitman 2 player profile, XP rank, location mastery levels, location mastery unlocks, challenge progress, challenge unlocks, and Elusive Target suits/unlocks. Players cannot pick and choose what to transfer, they either import everything or nothing. Thankfully, importing Hitman 2 player data into Hitman 3 is a one-time process per platform family and cannot be done again.

It is important to note that some items will not be carried over with this process such as the rewards unlocked with Hitman 1 Game of the Year Escalations, because they are linked to a purchase. The rewards and unlocks from Hitman 1 Game of the Year Escalations will be available in Hitman 3 when players redeem access to that content. However, the ICA Electrocution Phone is also not available in Hitman 3.

In order to transfer Hitman 2 player progression, Hitman players will need to have an IO Interactive account linked to their PC, PlayStation, or Xbox accounts, as well access to a web browser. Transfer of player progression cannot be done in the game of Hitman 3 and must be done in the players IO Interactive online account. This player progression transfer can only be done within the same platform family such as PlayStation to PlayStation and Xbox to Xbox. PC players will be able to import their player progression from Steam into the Epic game store. Players need to use IO Interactive's website after the Hitman 3 launch to transfer Hitman 2 progression to Hitman 3.

Hitman 3 will be available January 20, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
