Hitman 3 is coming at the beginning of next year, and fans have been getting new and exciting information about the conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy bit by bit. Now, IO Interactive is revealing game modes that old players might be familiar with, as well as some new ones.

The upcoming finale to an exciting trilogy, Hitman 3 will be coming to PS5 with a confirmed VR mode. The series has had a mostly positive reception, although some fans see the games as too repetitive, so virtual reality might vitalize the franchise in a new way. The multiple game modes, which include some content new to the trilogy, will also hopefully provide enough entertainment and engagement for fans to see this as a worthy end to the series.

The modes are as follows: Campaign, Elusive Targets, Escalations, Contracts Mode, and Sniper Assassin. Campaign is a standard story mode that takes the player around the world to different "sandbox locations" and wraps up the World of Assassination trilogy's plot. The iconic character Agent 47 will see a major change to the world around him when some life-altering contracts rock his world.

Elusive Targets is the "ultimate" challenge for Hitman players to hunt down a unique target without help from the HUD or Instinct. This mode may look familiar to fans of the trilogy, but IO Interactive is promising to shake up the mode's formula with new content it will reveal later. Escalations will also be challenging, and this mode's shtick are new elements added with each stage that progressively amp up the difficulty. Contracts mode will be the most customizable mode, where players can create their own targets and contracts and compete to for them to become Featured Contracts.

Sniper Assassin is what it sounds like, with players trying to boost their score multipliers without sounding an alarm. Unlike its predecessor, Hitman 3 will only feature this mode in single-player. IOI plans to retire Hitman 2's Sniper co-op servers and will share more info on that later. Some players might miss Ghost Mode, Hitman's competitive multiplayer, which will be leaving Hitman 2 at the end of August as IOI shifts its focus.

Although many players will miss the multiplayer Sniper Assassin and Ghost modes of Hitman 2, the Hitman 3 modes look like they'll be some of the biggest challenges in the Hitman games yet. IOI says it's focusing solely on single-player to give the upcoming game modes as much attention as possible, so hopefully they'll be able to deliver on quality.

Hitman 3 is releasing in January 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
