While Hitman 3 is officially the end of the rebooted trilogy, IO interactive isn't completely done with the series. The development team behind Hitman 3 is planning DLC, though it likely won't be introducing any new locations.

Having launched just a few weeks ago, Hitman 3 has reportedly already turned a profit for IO interactive. That's one of the reasons the game's executive producer, Forest Swartout Large, recently told The Gamer that the company plans to dedicate a team specifically for more content for Agent 47. The team will be working on post-launch patches and fixes for any glitches that pop up. However, it will also be tasked with creating new missions and DLC in the coming months. Large said that at the moment, the team isn't sure exactly what the DLC missions might entail.

He warned that the most likely scenario for extra content is a return to existing Hitman 3 locations such as Berlin. It's unlikely players are going to see large scale new additions like those in previous Hitman areas, such as the New York bank level or Haven Island. He added that while they might use locations players have seen before, the team wants to "reimagine" them and "twist" them. The producer added that "existing locations" doesn't just mean a rehash of levels seen in the most recent game. "We can look back at Hitman 2016 maps," he said in his recent interview. "Hitman 2 maps - we have all the locations."

hitman 3 possible dlc

As The Gamer points out, the way Large describes what IO is in the early stages of planning, it sounds like more limited-time and Escalation contracts are on the way. The ability to purchase the previous Hitman games in the trilogy inside the newest release means that players will apparently get several different looks at similar locations.

With most of the company is turning its attention to the upcoming James Bond game, the number of people working on this DLC is going to be smaller. Large didn't commit to how many developers will be tasked with continuing to support Hitman 3. He did say at least one group will continue working on improving the experience and upgrading the appearance here and there, alongside the new content.

It's unknown yet just when IO Interactive will deliver the new DLC. Large didn't put any kind of a timetable on the content. For now, the development team is still in the early stages of bug fixes and potential graphical upgrades for the Xbox Series X and PS5. Just how quickly the slimmed-down team can work on those updates alongside DLC remains to be seen.

Hitman 3 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
