Google held another Stadia Connect to announce new partnerships, new games coming to the platform, and other existing games being added to the Stadia library. Later this year, Stadia players will be able to play through the first two Hitman games in the franchises' recent reboot as well as newly announced Hitman 3 next year.

Google’s latest Stadia Connect announced plenty of different games coming to the platform. While many of the games that were included in the presentation are already available on other platforms, video game players who are interested in an all-streaming future have plenty to be excited about. Games coming to Stadia include Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, the Elder Scrolls Online: Stonethorn Expansion, and Dead By Daylight, which will include features exclusive to Stadia.

During the presentation, Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 were announced to be joining the Stadia library. The first two games in the reboot of the stealth-action franchise will be available in September. As a bonus, Hitman 1 will be free for Stadia Pro subscribers. The newest and final entry to the Hitman trilogy, Hitman 3, was announced to be joining the Stadia catalog in January 2021.

In 2016, IO Interactive released Hitman 1 as the first entry as a reboot for the franchise which is known as the World of Assassination Trilogy. This first entry took a new approach to the game by being an episodic title. Each chapter of the game released individually and strung together a full story, although, this strategy did not return for Hitman 2, which had a more traditional release. Hitman 3 was announced during the Sony PlayStation 5 reveal event and will conclude the trilogy. Players who have stuck with the trilogy through the first two titles will have the option to carry their progress over to Hitman 3.

While it’s hard to get excited for old games that have been widely available, this news should be bittersweet for Stadia owners rather than downright bitter. The highlight is that Hitman 3 is launching on Stadia in the same release window as it is for other platforms. This seems to mean that Stadia owners won’t be waiting months for this new game. Hopefully, this will be the start of a new trend, and more games will launch on Stadia the same time they release on other platforms. Google's biggest issue to fix is the narrative that Stadia has a lack of games.

Stadia is in need of some real “wins” for its platform. Getting new releases the same day they launch on other consoles is a great start. Upcoming games such as Marvel’s Avengers and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla launching on Stadia are huge for the platform. Hopefully, the delay to Cyberpunk 2077 will be enough time to get the game to Stadia on its launch, but it seemed like some tricky wording and editing during the Stadia Connect avoided confirming when it would launch.

Hitman 3 is releasing in January 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
