A video game has the potential to tell an extremely detailed and emotional story depending on its genre. Some stories will encourage a player to fall in love with its characters, making their eventual deaths feel especially more heartbreaking when they are finally witnessed.

Some character deaths, however, can evoke an entirely different emotion. Whether it's due to how they meet their end or the way others react to it, the death of a video game character can sometimes be much funnier than developers intended it to be. There have been some truly hilarious deaths in video games, but some are much more memorable than others.

7 Final Fantasy 7 Remake

In an attempt to prevent Shinra from dropping the plate on Sector 7, Jessie rushes to the top of the town's pillar and uses her explosive expertise to foil the company's plans. Sadly, her efforts are all in vain as she is eventually brought down by an enemy helicopter.

Cloud and Tifa stumble upon Jessie's wounded body while climbing the pillar. They both ascertain that her time is limited, so they move her to a more comfortable position to ease her passing. During her final moments, Jessie states that she wanted to have Cloud over for some of her mother's cooking, to which Cloud responds by saying "Yeah. You owe me a pizza." Though this line makes sense with context, the idea of lecturing a dying friend over a pizza is as absurd as it is comical.

6 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

CJ using a cement mixer to kill the foreman in GTA San Andreas

Having been captured and escorted to San Fierro by Officer Tenpenny, CJ takes it upon himself to regain a semblance of normalcy in his life. He begins working closely with his sister as she tries to start her own business, but is quickly drawn back into the world of crime after witnessing a group of construction workers harassing her.

CJ, being the loving brother he is, decides to send a message to the construction site's foreman by destroying his job site. The foreman witnesses this and seeks shelter in a portable toilet, prompting CJ to push the tiny lavatory into a small hole in the ground and fill it with cement.

5 The Last Guardian

Trico – The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian follows the story of an unnamed protagonist and his unlikely animal companion. The two form a strong bond the further they delve into the creature's home, but Trico's fondness for the boy does not outweigh his desire for food.

The Master of the Valley has set up multiple devices throughout Trico's home as a means of controlling him. Upon encountering these contraptions, Trico will lose his mind and try to consume the boy. Though the boy doesn't die during Trico's first betrayal, the way the creature so happily swallows the child is truly hilarious.

4 NieR: Automata

9S contemplates revenge in NieR Automata

Though the death of 9S doesn't exactly ooze comedic value, the way his life comes to an end is so nonsensical that it's hard not to laugh. Having lost his mind after witnessing the death of 2B, 9S decides that destroying A2 is the only thing that can bring him peace.

The two face each other atop the Tower and, though A2 is reluctant, she doesn't hold back. The end of the battle sees 9S lunging his blade through A2's torso. He drives the blade as far as he can into the android before tripping over and impaling himself on her sword. His death is truly horrifying, but the manner in which he so carelessly impales himself on an upright sword is hilarious.

3 Kingdom Hearts 3

Kh3 picture of young xehanort

Toward the end of the Keyblade War, Sora will be forced to once again face his greatest enemies to date. The battle can be extremely challenging, but defeating Ansem and Xemnas for the final time gives them a chance to explain their motivations.

Watching as these two commend Sora and Riku's devotion to the light will cause the player to reevaluate their thoughts on them, but Young Xehanort shows no remorse. His response to being bested is to laugh in Sora's face. Even his closing remarks are cut short because of how quickly he fades away. He remains bitter to the very end, making his death feel somewhat comical when compared to that of his peers.

2 Borderlands 2

Face McShooty begging to be shot in Borderlands 2

Face McShooty has one goal in life: to be shot in the face. Upon encountering this eccentric character, he will beg the player to direct their weapon at his head and fire a bullet in its direction. He appears excited by the thought of his impending death, but what makes his desire to be shot so funny?

McShooty is desperate to be shot in the head and his demeanor proves it. He prances around in front of the player like a giddy child during his last day of school while begging to be shot. The most hilarious part of this encounter is seen when the player finally fires a bullet in his head, to which McShooty replies with a quick "Thank you" while falling to the ground.

1 Spider-Man 3

The restrained woman in Spider-Man 3

Peter's adventure in Spider-Man 3 will force him to engage in multiple quick-time events while exploring New York. Failing these events will usually result in a game over, forcing the player to reattempt the mission a few more times until they emerge victorious.

Most of these quick-time events will result in some genuinely hilarious deaths, but nothing beats Peter's failed attempt at rescuing a woman from a burning building. If the player fails to execute the correct commands, Peter will collapse to the floor. The woman he hoped to save will then state "I'm going to die." before the room she is in explodes.
