Call of Duty: Warzone has been dominating the battle royale space since its release in March thanks to the free-to-play structure, trademark Call of Duty gunplay, and shakeups to traditional genre conventions like loadouts and the Gulag. Some fans have almost completely forgotten about Modern Warfare's multiplayer suite and fully dedicated themselves to the expansive Verdansk map.

The nature of the game mode means a variety of hilarious possibilities while searching for loot, battling other squads, or clawing one's way out of the Gulag. The following ten memes below recall the moment to moment amusement that occurs in the massive multiplayer arena.

Updated January 4th, 2021 by Jason Wojnar: Considering Call of Duty's annual releases, people were wondering what Warzone's future would be once new entries in the franchise came along. Fortunately, the battle royale mode will live past its connection to 2019's Modern Warfare and is being updated alongside Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. To celebrate its relationship with the most recent Call of Duty, we decided to present more delightful memes recalling our fondest, or most embarrassing, memories in the free-to-play mode.

15 At Least It's Something

Gulag wins warzone meme

Some inexperienced players will find themselves in the Gulag often. However, there's something to be said for someone who masters the opportunity at a second chance.

Only one team wins in Warzone, but every Gulag victory is a small bit of satisfaction a majority of those on the map can receive during the course of a match. Of course, there's no stopping them from dying moments after parachuting in again.

14 Go Out With Honor

Going out with dignity

As awesome as the Gulag is, players re-enter the map with only the pistol, leaving them at a distinct disadvantage next to fully decked out teams. That does not mean the player should cower in fear. They must stand up and fight with dignity.

If there's one thing Ghost of Tsushima has taught players, it is to enter a battle with honor, and not resort to nasty tricks.

13 Emotional Support

Warzone mandalorian meme

Nothing feels better than entering Verdansk with a skilled team who can destroy enemies as easy as drawing breath. The only trouble is keeping up with them.

An amateur player is probably best served in this situation hiding in a bush and providing emotional support to their teammates or berating the opponents. At the very least, the less experienced player should try and collect as much money as possible.

12 Well That Doesn't Make Sense

Complaining hackers meme

Assuming this headline is true, the hackers in Warzone are real babies for complaining about not being able to cheat in the battle royale. A true hacker would read the updates which make their job harder and think "challenge accepted."

Ultimately, however, one should not hack the game, since it is incredibly unfair to those paying honestly. One wonders why hackers even feel satisfaction from cheating.

11 Self-Revive Trickery

Call an ambulance warzone meme

Self-revives are expensive, but worth it especially if one is planning on some long-range battles. If a sniper takes out a player, the self-revive helps bring one right back into the fight without going to the Gulag.

Sometimes the winner might go in for the kill and not realize the other player is quickly reviving themselves for a swift counterattack. Of course, nothing stops you from being on the other side of the barrel in this situation.

10 Res Me, Bro

Bernie sanders warzone meme

There's nothing worse than a teammate who is constantly dying and dragging the team down. What's worse is when they constantly ask for a revive.

Bringing someone back from death is expensive, and if the revived teammate just bites it again, it really grinds the other fighters' gears. It's almost like donating a lot of money to a political campaign that ultimately decides to drop out of the race.

9 Backup

Gulag warzone leo meme

The coolest thing about the Gulag is the ability to watch matches from the sidelines. If a teammate is in the same lobby, they can provide support by spotting the enemy.

The rounds are so quick in this prison, it is difficult to accurately relay where the enemy exactly is, but the smallest detail can help claim victory. Unfortunately, the one who helped their teammate is less likely to get similar assistance.

8 We've All Been Here

Other guys meme warzone

Nothing exemplifies a bad start to a Warzone match like this incredibly hilarious scene from The Other Guys. Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L Jackson's characters are two star cops who inexplicably jump off a building to their deaths, perhaps thinking they would live due to hubris.

Warzone players can sympathize with this attitude, especially if they just won a prior match or scored a ton of kills. A little bit of humility and caution goes a long way.

7 Games Are Supposed To Be Fun

Warzone pro friend meme

Since Warzone is free-to-play, plenty of people who do not regularly play Call of Duty probably jumped into it with some friends to see what the fuss is all about. Many probably found themselves in a situation similar to the poor soul in the above photo.

They just want to explore the map while their friends are dragging them right into the eye of the storm and going up against fully loaded enemy teams.

6 The Poor Hard Drive

Harddrive meme

A common joke among Warzone players is the massive amount of space the game takes place on one's hard drive. Any time an update comes out players have to delete some games and move things around in order to download it.

Part of it is the game's connection to Modern Warfare. Players have to download the whole game even if they did not purchase it.

5 Financial Decisions

Call of duty who wants to be a millionaire meme

People play video games to get away from life's problems, one of which is the careful balancing of finances. Unfortunately, players are faced with economic decisions when playing Warzone. With just enough money to buy one of the four items in the shop, which does one choose? Reviving a teammate seems like the go-to option, but what if they are dragging the team down? Does one compromise a friendship and leave them in the dust if it means a better shot at a team's survival.

4 Games Don't Lie, But Your Eyes And Thumbs Do

Maury Povich meme warzone

Everybody has been here while playing Warzone; you swear on things you should not swear on that the headshot should have downed the enemy. Unfortunately, people can survive headshots with powerful guns as long as their armor is full. Like Maury Povich reading the results of a paternity test, the only truth is the one the game determines. On the bright side, sometimes you can be the one enraging an adversary as you survive a blast from a powerful weapon.

3 The Doomsday Wall

Warzone gas circle meme dog as wall of gas

It is incredibly easy to get distracted looting houses and scavenging for weapons and money. One feels invincible and well-equipped, but none of that will save you from the gas closing in right behind in the popular battle royale.

Even if one manages to outrun the enclosing circle, enemies are no doubt picking off stragglers dashing away from certain death. Talk about out of the frying pan and into the sniper's crosshair.

2 Every Squad Has A Clown

Warzone redeployment meme

Even the most successful squads have a clown who consistently gets themselves killed, costing their teammates many thousands of dollars. The loser reassures them that, if the situation were reversed, they would revive their buddies instantly without a second thought. Such promises mean nothing if the situation never arises, however. At the same time, what good is having all that money if the team has nothing to spend it on? If anything, the constantly dying teammate is giving altruistic meaning to their friends' existence.

1 Not Shown Hurting: Pride

Warzone getting squad wiped meme

Nothing is worse than having a team wiped out by a single opponent. It is so humiliating it my cause one intense physical pain. However, the part of us that hurts the most cannot be seen; our pride. Imagine spending a solid ten minutes gearing up only for a lone wolf to destroy a big team of three or four. It is hard to be too mad, since the enemy going solo must be one of the best players of all time. No team can be so uncoordinated as to be taken out easily by an average combatant.
