No matter what happens in the world in 2022, it looks like one thing's for certain - once again, the audience will have a lot of interesting new movies to watch! Some of them were supposed to premiere earlier but were pushed to 2022, others had their premiere date set from the start. Whatever the case, the selection for the new year is very rich, and depending on the viewer's taste, they will have a hard time deciding what to watch first.

2022 will see the premiere of sequels of highly successful series as well as brand new movies. Of course, superheroes are also present as well as game-based movies, which have the potential to attract a wider audience. 2022 will simply be full of promising movies but some are more anticipated than others.

8 Morbius

While the MCU still rules when it comes to Marvel movies, the Sony universe is worth paying attention to as well. After Venom and Carnage, the universe will introduce another iconic Spider-Man villain and one that hasn't appeared on the big screen before. Jared Leto will star as Morbius, a brilliant scientist who turns himself into a living vampire when he tries to cure his rare blood disease.

Working with vampires is something even the MCU hasn't yet done, so after Blade, it will be a unique opportunity to once again see vampires in a superhero movie. What makes Morbius even more promising is not only Jared Leto in the title role but also the fact that Morbius is far from a one-dimensional villain.

7 Moonfall

Moonfall Lionsgate

The director Roland Emmerich has already destroyed the Earth multiple times in his movies, and he will do so again thanks to his newest piece. This time, the Moon itself is on a collision course with Earth and there are only three people who believe that they can prevent the destruction.

The movie promises to uncover the mystery behind the Moon, but even if it didn't, it still could be a high-quality action story with talented actors such as Halle Berry in the leading role and Donald Sutherland. It remains to be seen whether the heroes will succeed this time or Emmerich will manage to destroy the Earth yet again.

6 Death On The Nile

Death on the Nile

A lot of viewers enjoy a good detective story and the movies inspired by Agatha Christie's work belong among the best ones. Kenneth Branagh has already directed and starred in one iconic Hercule Poirot story, Murder on the Orient Express, but Death on the Nile will take the heroes and the audience alike to a much warmer climate.

This time, Poirot will have to solve a murder of a rich young woman who had just gotten married. The movie once again has a promising cast, other than Branagh, also starring well-known actresses such as Gal Gadot and Rose Leslie.

5 Uncharted

Tom Holland Mark Wahlberg Uncharted

Other than appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland has another interesting movie coming in winter. Uncharted is based on the famous video game series and will star Holland as the young adventurer, Nathan Drake, who's looking for a rare gold statue from El Dorado, but has to face those who pursue him.

Not every video game adaptation turns out well but Uncharted has been in the makings for quite some time and the expectations are high. The movie will also star Mark Walhberg, which is something many fans of the games appreciated since they originally wished for Wahlberg to play an older version of Nathan.

4 The Batman

Another heavily-anticipated superhero movie will focus on the most famous caped crusader of all time. Played by Robert Pattinson, the new version of Batman will be different from his predecessors, most recently Ben Affleck. The movie takes place while Batman has only been fighting crime for a short time and he's already facing a dangerous villain known as the Riddler.

While the movie works with characters that appeared on the big screen before (Riddler, Catwoman), it has the potential to offer a new version of them and feel refreshing and original. Robert Pattinson has proved many times he's a talented actor and Matt Reeves has directed genre movies before (such as War for the Planet of the Apes), so The Batman seems to be in good hands.

3 Sonic The Hedgehog 2

The 2020 movie Sonic the Hedgehog proved to be a surprisingly feel-good game adaptation, especially once the creators changed Sonic's look after the initial backlash. It seems like the sequel could have a similar atmosphere. This time, Sonic will be home alone while his best friend Tom goes on a holiday. But instead of relaxing, Sonic will have to face the evil Dr. Robotnik once again and save the world.

The first movie has been ideal for both children and adults thanks to its large number of jokes and sympathetic characters. Not every sequel lives up to its predecessor but Sonic the Hedgehog 2 has the chance to do it.

2 Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore

Fantastic Beasts 3

Considering the popularity of Harry Potter, every return into this magical world is welcomed among thousands of fans. The third part of the Fantastic Beasts franchise will bring back well-known characters, not just Jude Law's Dumbledore.

But judging by the title, Dumbledore could very well play an even bigger role in the movie. It could very well uncover the secrets of Dumbledore's complicated relationship with the evil wizard Grindelwald. And, of course, Newt Scamander and his fantastic beasts also shouldn't be missing from the movie!

1 New MCU Movies

In 2022, the MCU will continue with its trend to release multiple movies per year. Picking the most expected one is difficult since everybody's looking forward to something else. However, both Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder are good starts.

In November, the audience will get to return to Wakanda thanks to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, unfortunately without Chadwick Boseman. And if that wasn't enough, fans of animated Spider-Man movies will get the sequel to the highly successful movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)!
