Blumhouse makes some of the most profitable films in the horror genre, and that's true of sequels as well. Blumhouse has several franchises, from Paranormal Activity to Halloween, that make a ton of money at the box office year after year. Fans are always happy to see these new movies and catch up with characters or meet new ones. Audiences can look forward to an untitled sequel that is part of The Exorcist franchise, which is said to be released in 2023 with David Gordon Green as the director. Of course, there's also Halloween Ends, which will be released in October of 2022.

According to Box Office Mojo, there are several Blumhouse horror sequels that have been huge successes, and it's interesting to see which ones are the highest-grossing.

Paranormal Activity 2 (2010): $84,752,907

Paranormal Activity 2

After the success of Paranormal Activity in 2007, which was the first big Blumhouse horror release, the sequel came out in 2010 and made $84,752,907 at the box office. It was exciting to watch the new film in the franchise, which sparked an interest in found footage storytelling about the supernatural.

The story occurs two months prior to the first, with Katie's (Katie Featherson) sister Kristi (Spraque Gayden) and Daniel Rey (Brian Boland) realizing that their house has evil spirits. Fans of the franchise will be happy to know that there is a Paranormal Activity reboot being planned. The new film, Paranormal Activity: The Other Side, will be released in 2022.

Halloween Kills (2021): $92,002,155

The 2021 entry in the Halloween trilogy, Halloween Kills, is one of the highest-grossing Blumhouse sequels, earning $92,002,155 at the box office.

Horror fans couldn't wait to check out the new film, although there are some frustrating things about it. Halloween Kills wasted Laurie Strode as Jamie Lee Curtis's character is in the hospital, which is too bad since audiences would love to see her out and about, kicking butt. Karen Nelson's Halloween Kills death is also a shame since fans would have loved to have seen Judy Greer's character in the upcoming film Halloween Ends, which will hit theaters in October 2022.

Paranormal Activity 3 (2011): $104,028,807

Siblings Kristi and Katie in Paranormal Activity 3

The third movie in the Paranormal Activity franchise was released in 2011 and did well at the box office, grossing $104,028,807. The movie is a prequel that happens almost 20 years before the original movie.

The film opens with Katie giving her sister Kristi and husband Daniel videotapes, which are stolen when someone seems to rob Daniel and Kristi's home one year after that. Audiences then watch the videotapes from 1988, which see Kristi, Katie, their mom Julie and Julie's partner Dennis talking about Tobi, who Kristi says is her imaginary friend. There is a terrible, horrifying demon in the home. Paranormal Activity has become one of the best Blumhouse horror franchises.

Glass (2019): $111,048,468

James McAvoy as Kevin and Anya-Taylor Joy as Casey in Glass

Glass, which was released in 2019 and is the third movie in M. Night Shyamalan's trilogy including Split (2016) and Unbreakable (2000), made $111,048,468 at the box office. Notable stars include Samuel L. Jackson, whose character Elilah Price (Mr. Glass) uses a wheelchair, and James McAvoy, who plays Kevin Wendell Crumb (The Horde) who has 23 personalities.

Glass is one of the highest-grossing Blumhouse horror movies. When Shyamalan was asked by Den Of Geek in 2019 about whether there would be another film in the franchise, the director had a fascinating response about sequels. Shyamalan said, "The idea of doing a sequel to this has always kind of turned me off a little bit. Not like it’s cheating, but there’s something inorganic about it. You know, like: 'We had a great date last week. Do you want to go to the exact same restaurant again this week?' Weird. I like that sense of trying to have a new relationship each time and it’s fun and scary. So two weeks from now I’m going to start writing a new movie that has nothing to do with it."

Split (2016): $138,291,365

James McAvoy as Kevin in Split

Some horror sequels are better than the original but fans have mixed thoughts about this one. Split focuses on Kevin's character and Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy), a teenage girl who one of his personalities kidnaps.

According to Hollywood.com, James McAvoy wanted to talk to people who have multiple personality disorder, but when he wasn't able to, he found videos on YouTube that were really helpful. The actor said, “What I did find really useful was diaries, really just for the day-to-day ins and outs of what it’s like to live with ID, and then vloggers (video bloggers), people who vlog. I found that YouTube was an incredible tool for people with the ID and a platform for them to project themselves positively into the world.”
