When Transformers: War for Cybertron, High Moon Studios' successful adaptation of Hasbro's popular toy, was ported to the PC it failed to meet gamers expectations. While its console counterparts delivered high-octane vehicular and robotic action, the PC version was, at best, a poor translation.

To help avoid that headache, or at least the gamer backlash, for their next Transformers title, Fall of Cybertron (we're trying to forget they made Dark of the Moon), High Moon Studios has decided to take the best route for them. That route is, of course, not porting Transformers: Fall of Cybertron to the PC at all.

Citing a lack of time, and not wanting to spread their development team as thin as last time, High Moon Studios' makes a perfect case for why this Fall of Cybertron port isn't happening. If War for Cybertron wasn't able to hit a certain quality benchmark, then it would be safe to assume Fall of Cybertron may be even worse.

Speaking with Kotaku, Game Director Matt Tieger shed a bit more light on why Fall of Cybertron won't be coming to the PC. He does acknowledge the common assumption that porting any game to the PC should be a piece of cake, but says that is a misconception. In fact, Tieger says that High Moon isn't as well versed in the PC architecture as they are with consoles, meaning that perhaps even with more time this port wouldn't have been all that great.

"It seems like so glamorous from the outside, but games are this constant struggle of tough choices; it just is when you're making a game. Despite the fact that it's an artistic creation, the technical constraints of how many resources you have and what you can do – you really want to try and do the things you can do well."

Still, there's a large population of gamers who will be disappointed by this news, despite the fact that the last Transformers PC port was poorly received. High Moon has completely reinvented the Transformers video game concept, and hit it out of the park on one of two occasions. While a short development time spelled bad news for Dark of the Moon, High Moon has had a team working on Fall of Cybertron since mid-2010 and we're hopeful of a return to form.

Are you disappointed to hear that Fall of Cybertron won't be ported to the PC? If a developer isn't capable of giving their full attention to a PC port do you agree that they should scrap it?

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron releases August 28, 2012 on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
