Kojima Productions and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance news has been hot post-Spike Video Game Awards, and the divide between gamers still wages on. New interviews with creator Hideo Kojima have surfaced as he talks about his vision behind Revengeance (if he had full control), the truth behind Metal Gear Rising, and some ideas about Metal Gear Solid 5 that have been stewing in his mind.
As many have already seen, the first official trailer for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance came as somewhat of a shock to MGS loyalists. Gamers were up in arms as to what to make of this new Metal Gear game – which is unlike anything in the series before. It was very in-your-face and nowhere near the kind of stealth action that players are accustomed to. Thankfully for purists, Revengeance won’t be a part of the traditional Metal Gear Solid storyline and will be set in the future as a spin-off.
That said, Platinum Games has taken the backlash to heart and will continue to fight for the game’s reputation. Interviewed before the Spike VGA’s, Kojima was asked about his feelings toward Revengeance stating, “Yes, I’m very satisfied.” In regards to the difference between the pace of the game he admits, “[Platinum Games] made something very different from what I do. I like it.”
Kojima is just the producer for Revengeance and is not working on the game design. If he had worked on the game design he conceded that the game would be much slower, “it would be more like the Bushido, the way of the samurai, more fixed, not ninja action.”
Sounds like a completely different game but Mr. Kojima is still satisfied? Interesting. For those who are waiting for a stealthier game, Kojima’s press conference for Revengeance offered satisfaction to those who are looking forward to Metal Gear Solid 5.
Yesterday, a 25-minute short documentary with Hideo Kojima and Platinum Games released on the Konami website entitled, “The Truth Behind Rising.” Within this feature, Kojima teases Metal Gear Solid 5, what it could potentially deal with, and how Rising came to fruition.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater fans will probably be especially appreciative of this MGS5 idea:
“I had several ideas for a game featuring The Boss and the Cobra Unit during the invasion of Normandy. I then handed these plans over to the team so they could take over and make the game. I presented my ideas to the team during the summer of 2008. However, simply dropping MGS5 on the younger staff members was a bit heavy and there was resistance to doing it without my involvement.”
Instead of jumping right into Metal Gear Solid 5, Kojima asked the team to take on a new title, which would later become Rising – a side-story, and not as entangled in the full series canon.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is still en route for a PS3 and Xbox 360 debut sometime in 2012. There is no word on a set date for production, a platform, or release for Metal Gear Solid 5 yet.
