With the release of Death Stranding behind him, Hideo Kojima is already working on his next project. What that project might be remains a mystery, but as ever fans look to Kojima for hints. During an interview at the BAFTA awards, Kojima may have dropped that hint. Asked about his horror "experiment" P.T., Kojima couldn't help but talk about the future. The game director admits he'd love to make a horror game eventually, a game that uses a "revolutionary method to create terror."

"P.T. ended as just an experiment," Kojima starts, acknowledging that P.T. was originally intended to be something more. Silent Hills deserved a better fate. Kojima goes on to say, "but I would like to make another horror game someday." Note that he carefully says "someday" to maintain mystery surrounding Kojima Productions' current project. It might be a horror game or it might be something entirely different. Kojima, at the very least, wants to make a horror game eventually.

Kojima doesn't want to make just any horror game, however. He wants to make something special. More importantly, he wants to make something so frightening that players soil themselves. Kojima says he wants to make, "Something that uses a revolutionary method to create terror, that doesn't just make you pee your pants, but crap them." That may seem severe, but Kojima has always had lofty aspirations.

"I already have ideas in mind," says Kojima, which is understandable given his fruitless work on Silent Hills. Hopefully, he's able to put those ideas into practice in whatever game Kojima Productions is working on, or a game soon to follow.

Kojima even elaborates regarding why he knows his ideas will work. "I'm easily frightened myself, so I have confidence that I could create something more terrifying than perhaps others could." He goes on to say that he gets frightened of things like darkness and "shadows of ghosts in the dark." He compares this to similar attitudes from famous film directors Alfred Hitchcock and Steven Spielberg.

In the end, Kojima Productions' next game remains a complete mystery. But for fans of P.T. and those who were looking forward to Silent Hills, there's hope. Kojima wants to make a horror game, and as Death Stranding should make abundantly clear Kojima is getting what he wants, now. It's just a matter of whether that's sooner or later.
