A couple of days ago, a trailer for The Game Awards 2017 teased that legendary developer Hideo Kojima would be making an appearance at the show. Now The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley has confirmed that not only will Hideo Kojima be at the event, but he will be joined by film director Guillermo del Toro, who is playing a character in Kojima's first post-Konami game, Death Stranding.

Kojima and del Toro will be at The Game Awards to present an award, though Keighley stopped short of revealing which award the pair would be presenting. However, given that The Game Awards typically features surprise game announcements and new footage, the fact that both Kojim and del Toro are attending leaves one to believe that we will learn more about Death Stranding at the event.

We haven't seen Death Stranding for quite awhile at this point, as the game skipped E3 2017 despite being rumored for Sony's press conference. Death Stranding was nowhere to be seen at subsequent video game events either, no-showing Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, and Paris Games Week. While the game still has a ways to go in development, it would be surprising if we don't see a little more of it by the end of the year, either at The Game Awards or the PlayStation Experience.

Considering the strong relationship between Kojima and Keighley, it seems likely that the Metal Gear Solid creator would opt to show new Death Stranding footage at The Game Awards instead of the PlayStation Experience. Plus, the PlayStation Experience will likely have more games on display, so showing Death Stranding at The Game Awards potentially means less competition for the game to get attention from the public and press.

If we do see Death Stranding at The Game Awards, then it's possible it will be the first gameplay footage of the game. So far, all we've seen are cinematic clips that have introduced various characters, including those played by Norman Reedus, Mads Mikkelsen, and Guillermo del Toro, so fans are due for some gameplay footage. Perhaps we will even see the gameplay footage that Hideo Kojima has supposedly already shown to Guillermo del Toro.

Before Kojima Productions fans get too excited, it's worth noting that Death Stranding is not confirmed for The Game Awards 2017. All we know for sure is that both Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro will be at the show to present an award, and so it's possible that that's all they will be doing. However, given the nature of The Game Awards and the fact that new Death Stranding footage debuted at last year's show, it seems likely that fans are in for a treat come December 7th.

Death Stranding is in development for PS4.
