Still off the heels of the major conspiracy theory surrounding Abandoned and Blue Box Game Studios, business has been as usual on Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima's social media, with the auteur game director still regularly sharing the media that he loves. While this is usually limited to films and music the director is currently enjoying, the latest video game to get the legendary game designer's seal approval is 12 Minutes, the newest game from renown indie game publisher Annapurna Interactive.

12 Minutes was first announced at PAX East 2015 from ex-Rockstar Games and Ubisoft developer Luis Antonio, and is an adventure game revolving around a man trapped in an endless time loop lasting twelve minutes that constantly ends with him and his wife being attacked by a mysterious man. The game received major media attention in 2019 when it was re-revealed during Microsoft's E3 2019 press conference as an Xbox console exclusive, now featuring the voice talents of James McEvoy, Daisy Ridley, and Willem Dafoe. The game released earlier this week as part of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass service.

While famed Metal Gear and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is no stranger to gushing about his favorite films and music on his social feeds, very rarely does the director take the time to highlight other video games. However with 12 Minutes, Kojima claims that he lost track of time playing the time loop point-and-click adventure game, and compared his love for it to his love for 2016's INSIDE from developer Playdead. Kojima also praised the performances of the actors, namely Willem Dafoe, which comes as no surprise considering the number of social media posts he has made in reference to The Lighthouse, a 2019 horror film in which Dafoe stars. Kojima even later added that 12 Minutes currently has him considering returning to the adventure game genre.

It may come as a surprise to some, but Kojima himself is no stranger to the adventure game genre. During his early years as a designer at Konami, Kojima directed Snatcher, a Blade Runner and Terminator inspired adventure game set in a dystopian cyberpunk world which has gone on to become a cult classic. He also directed Policenauts, another science-fiction cult classic adventure game. Outside of the Abandoned conspiracy, it's been highly rumored that Kojima's next game will be a cloud-based title developed in partnership with Microsoft for its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, however after it we may see a smaller return to the adventure game genre for Kojima Productions.

12 Minutes is available now on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
